The Slingbox Goes HD

The set-top can send high-def signals to another location.

Washington, D.C. (January 4, 2008) -- Sling Media says it will launch a new set-top that can send High-Definition signals from one TV to another.

The Slingbox PRO-HD, which will cost $399, will be available in the third quarter of this year. It will be the first Slingbox that can display high-def signals sent from a different location.

The Slingbox PRO-HD.

However, there is a catch: Because of the bandwidth requirements in transmitting HD signals, the set-top will work most effectively when sending programming to a different room in the same house.

This would enable someone to use the Slingbox PRO-HD to set up a home network, sending HD signals to different TVs in the house.

Other Slingbox products can send standard-def signals to a remote location thousands of miles away.

Sling Media, which is owned by satcaster EchoStar, says the new box will include inputs for TV receivers and Blu-ray and HD DVD players.

Wow look at that price tag.... There is no way im throwing down that much change for it. Cut the price in half and you have your self a deal. Expecally if it only does hd to another room and not over the net.

Just look at how much some of their HD DVR receivers were for a while. Once this product is out for a while the price will drop. Would be nice to be able to transmit it to a tv instead of a computer but the resolution would probably be low on a monitor larger than a computer's.
