Why not go back a little further than most shows listed to the days of the old west with the following:

HAVE GUN WILL TRAVEL

GUNSMOKE

WAGON TRAIN

WELLS FARGO

THE LONE RANGER

CISCO KID

ROY ROGERS

GENE AUTRY MOVIES

HOPALONG CASTITY

WILD BILL HICKOK

Some of these as well as others that have been listed can be viewed over the internet at Fancast, I have not figured out how to record them yet.

Well why not dcbag!
Talking about the older everything in this thread would not be complete without the old westerns! You got some good ones listed here, many memories in some of these I remember watching them on an old Zenith B/W console television with my Father as a young lad! A good western would be an old black and white one in my opinion!

They seem to capture the era when they were made also, if there was a way to film in the actual western era, it would have been B/W.

I remember Wagon Train and Gunsmoke like yesterday. As I said in one post here in this thread that growing up I never cared watching them then but we had too while my father was controlling the TV. Saturday afternoons were all about the westerns. I love them now for the fact that they remind me of my father gone now passed June of 2006.

Great shows you got here dcbag!

We all love a good western! ;)

Back to the Future is a real classic! Ironically, the series was reminiscing about the 50s when it was made in the 80s, and now we are reminiscing about the 80s in 2009 :D... This is heavy, Doc...

Dr. Emmett Brown: There's that word again; "heavy". Why are things so heavy in the future? Is there a problem with the earth's gravitational pull? :D

You're right about the black & white. Life is not the same when your parents are gone. My Dad also passed away in 2006 but it was Oct. Mother a few years earlier.

Sounds like you also saw many of the much older western B movies like

TOM MIX, KEN MAYOR, LAS LAROUE, ROY CALHOUN, and many others

My Dad also passed away in 2006 but it was Oct. Mother a few years earlier.

Sorry to hear that dcbag, Hard thing loosing your parents, miss him for sure. Sorry for your loss as well, I can relate.

Guess I am lucky though, my Mother is still around.

Sounds like you also saw many of the much older western B movies

My Dad loved everything old and that included the westerns, movies, old, some new, if there was a horse in it and a Colt 45!

He loved Old cars, radios, TV’s, records, 8-Tracks, memorabilia, and music he loved it all. He did not want to convert to the new!

It was all good to him, I watch the old shows on TV now with new respect! :)

my Dad also was the same, he also loved all the old radio shows, and he had shoe boxes full of the old radio shows.

My Father too! He had a Magnavox open reel to reel that he had shows on!

Wow, forgotten about that until you mentioned the shows in shoe boxes! :up

I remember also then, you could buy album versions on reel to reel and Johnny Cash’s Live at Folsom Prison & San Quentin was the ones he had along with Merle Haggard and Johnny Horton!

Great Post! I almost forgot about the tapes of shows he had!

My Dad was not into Country Music, but my Mom was. Dad like the big band sound.

The tapes he had were the cassette tapes he had recorded in recents years off of a local radio station. Story tapes of old radio programs like Amos & Andy, the Green Hornet, and others.

They also had many tapes they had purchase of the old western radio programs, such as Gunsmoke with William Conrad, Six Shooter with Jimmy Steward, Zane Grey Theater, Wells Forgo, and others

Got to love The Rockford Files. The big boat (car) chases some equipped with rich Corinthian leather even, squealing around even on the dirt roads are enjoyed by all.

Had a 72 Chrysler New Yorker with the 440 engine. That's 2 couches and living room on wheels with the power almost of a top fuel dragster under the coffee table, all with the feeling your riding on a cloud. You need mooring lines when you park it and a big slip in the port.

It was in mint condition and I used it for long trips, nothing built today rides like it. I sold it a few years back and now miss it every time I watch a Rockford Files show and see one, The bad guys like them.

Great program. Thanks to RTN/RTV.

Thought that Jim Rockford drove gold [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Rockford_Files"]The Rockford Files - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia@@AMEPARAM@@/wiki/File:Rockford_files.JPG" class="image"><img alt="Rockford files.JPG" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/7/77/Rockford_files.JPG/250px-Rockford_files.JPG"@@AMEPARAM@@en/thumb/7/77/Rockford_files.JPG/250px-Rockford_files.JPG[/ame]? Corinthian leather was only used to describe the interior of the Chrysler Cordoba my man, I have owned many and still own a 79 Chrysler Cordoba.

Bet you would love to still own that 72 New Yorker squirrel! 440 was a mean power plant! Mine has the 360 with the three speed Torqueflite transmission with 3.2 rear end! No, I never let go of the reins of her, she is all factory and I know she will go for sure, I just baby it. I got it last year, she was garage kept, only 29.145 miles on it. Boat yes, runs like a new one! I get 35 MPG in it, the EPG sticker said it would get about 14 MPG new! How many 31 year old cars can you say get that with that big engine in it! It does only have the 2BBL carburetor on it though and the Chrysler famous Lean Burn Computer on it!

Would not trade it for any other car!

Bet I could squeal it out on dirt! Kidding!! :D

Back to Jim Rockford, I loved that famous reverse trick he would do in just about all the episodes where he would fly backwards, spinning 180 degrees in reverse and leave fowards to escape the bad guys and go!

Priceless! :up

35 mpg ? Please explain!

35 mpg ? Please explain!

The car gets around 32 to 35 miles per gallon now! The window sticker for EPA when the car was new estimated around 14 miles per gallon.

It has a Fuel capacity of 21.1 US Gal and it averages around 35 best on around 32 being the worst I have got in it so far. Now for it being an 31 year old car (built in 1978) and the original window sticker averaged it to get 14 Miles Per Gallon, I would say that that is great for an old boat like this with a 360 CU IN big block with a 2BBL Holly II carburetor on it. Most new cars don’t get that kind of gas mileage.

I guess that the new fuels we have now factor in there and are better than they were back then, better octane ratings.

Is that what you were asking dcbag?

I am not doubting your word, but I doubt anyone will believe you get that kind of mileage, or I should say I doubt many people will believe you get that kind of mileage. But then who care if they believe it or not, as long as you no its true that all that matters.

Well, it is true and no lie, it does get around 32-35 Miles Per Gallon! Probably better than that for I make sure it is warmed up before I take it out, it idles a lot so it may be better than that if I would cut some of that out.

Remember also, it now only has now 31,000 original miles on it, then the break in for cars of this size was over 50,000 (what the book says). If that is true it is not even broke in yet!

It has everything original under the hood parts wise right down to the original hoses and belts! I did change the spark plugs when I go it with new wires and distributor button. Other than that it is all original!

Also if you know anything about the Chrysler Lean Burn systems, they were designed to save gas mileage plus it has the Carbon Canister for unused fuel return so now fuel or fumes is wasted it all gets burned!

I have no reason to lie about the fuel economy it gets. :)

My last 79 Cordoba had the Lean Burn computer taken off and a points distributor and a 4 BBL and it got around 26 MPG! Same engine 360 but it was bored to 400! The fuel rating on it was about the same according to sticker around 14-20!

Gasoline is made a lot better now than it was back then, even though we have more additives mixed in, but octane is better in today’s fuels.

I always get a kick out of the doubters, they wish they could get that kind of mileage out of their newer cars but the proof it the amount of times I have to fill up!

My wife hates that the car gets this good mileage! :D

Yep, I miss the 72 New Yorker. That big boat got 20 if you kept it light on the right foot, but it was hard to.

I was not clear about the cars on the show, You get shots of the big boats that the bad guys drive. They are normally the fancy cars. Jim's car is just boring ole sports car to me. I am a fan of the boats, the bigger the better.

Man that Cordoba sure is a keeper with that kind of MPG and power when needed.
Too bad you only have a smattering of the Rich Corinthian Leather.
(I saw where that was just an advertising thing/name for regular leather, where do you get that kind of leather?)

Salvage 1 Starring Andy Griffith!

This Thread active again!!

Anybody remember Salvage 1 in 1979? Forgot about this show!

andy2a.jpg

Salvage 1 is an American science fiction series that aired for 16 episodes (of the 20 produced) on ABC during 1979. The pilot film, Salvage, aired on January 20, 1979 to high ratings. Only 20 episodes starred Andy Griffith, ABC pulled the plug after 16 episodes due to overall poor Nielsen Ratings in the end!

Noted science fiction author Isaac Asimov served as the show's scientific advisor.

Pilot (Parts 1 & 2) (20 January 1979)

Harry Broderick (Andy Griffith), owns the Jettison Scrap and Salvage Company, a specialist in reclaiming trash and junk in order to sell that as scrap. However, his dream is to recover equipment left on the moon during Apollo Program missions. With that purpose, he invites former astronaut Addison "Skip" Carmichael (Joel Higgins) and NASA fuel expert Melanie "Mel" Slozar (Trish Stewart) and establishes a team.

He builds a spaceship called Vulture completely made of junk and powered by a chemical called mono-hydrazine. The main body of Vulture is composed of a Texaco gasoline Semi-trailer with cement mixer as the capsule. This is augmented with three shorter rocket boosters placed 120 degrees around the main tank.

Estes Rockets made a prototype of a model rocket version of the Vulture. It was never brought to market. Broderick and his ragtag crew complete their mission and go on to further adventures in the subsequent series.

So that's why the mileage is so good.... It irritates the wife....

Or rather, because you love that car...

Very amusing...

PS. I like that window sticker. VERY COOL.
