The Road to SuperBowl XLIV: The Official 2010 NFL Playoffs Thread

IF the Ravens win in Foxboro today:

* it will be their first EVER win over the Patriots (0-5)

* it will be the Pats first home loss this season (8-0)

* it will be the Pats first home playoff loss in the Belichick/Brady era (8-0)

* it will snap the Pats 11 game playoff home winning streak (dating back to 1978)

* it will snap Brady's 22 game home winning streak (regular season/playoffs combined)

As a Pats fan, WHY do these numbers scare me???

I guess I got my answer rather emphatically!!! :o

So I wonder, if the Jets go and beat the Colts, does that embolden or shut up all the Polian haters?
that's a real difficult question to answer. i think if the jets win some will say how it happened for resting their players too much. if the colts win i guess some will say how they could've won that game against the jets and be undefeated. is it fair? nope. but either way i think he'll be facing some criticism.

Color me shellshocked- I did NOT see this coming.

33-14?

Pats losing at home with Brady in the postseason?

Totally stunned.

They lost to a better football team, but that being said, that was an E-M-B-A-R-R-A-S-S-I-N-G effort!!! :o:o

This team needs an enema in the offseason!!

those are my picks for today as well. What did Pats expect? The team really needs rebuilding. No Bruski, no seymore, no harrison, no samuels, I just dont see the talent on the defensive side of the ball. Then you take out Welker and they are toast. I dont however see the Jets winning again, Chargers or the Colts will waste them.

I dont like the Patriots so that is why I went with the Ravens

I hate the Packers (as a MN fan that is pretty much a given) so I picked AZ :)

While you are absolutely, positively 1,000 % correct about the defense needing serious help, it was the offense- not the defense- that lost this game today.

Think about it, after the opening play 83 yard TD run, the Ravens didn't have a play of more than 12 yards the entire day. In fact, Flacco completed only 4 passes the entire game.

OTOH, the offense was just that................offensive. The only reason the Pats scored any points at all was because of a bone headed special teams play (the Ravens should have thrown the challenge flag on that one) and an INT that put the Pats in great position.

The Patriots now feel the effects of paying Tom Brady market value for his services. When he took over in mid-season for Bledsoe, Bledsoe's cap value was about 7.5 million dollars whereas Brady's was a few hundred thousand, so even though Brady did not come off as a world beater in his serendipitous waltz to the Super Bowl, management determined correctly that it would be better to spread the $7 million salary difference on the rest of the roster.

Now Brady costs - what -$16 million of cap space? This situation is now looking like Haynesworth in Washington. I know it it tough - nay, wreckless - to rebuild around an unproven player at quarterback, but there might not be any other way to fill the holes that have been apparent to anyone watching the middle of their defense get over run for two or three years now.

Don't turn out the lights at Giants Stadium just yet!!

I realize that it's a longshot, but if the Ravens and Jets upset the Colts and Chargers respectively, the AFC Championship Game will be held at the Meadowlands two weeks from today.

I thought that Brady was one of the guy's that normally gives money back to get other players needed, there are some out there that are willing to do that, thought Brady had been one too.

Bill would be the one to answer that one. :)

Great game going on down in the desert! Far and away, the best game of the weekend.

IMO, the Cardinals fell asleep at the switch on that onside kick.
