The Mentalist

Good show last night, but it was certainly pale in comparison to last year's finale. A few things I didn't like: 1) how they "flashforwarded" six months and 2) the supposed meeting with Red John was kinda cheesy and not "smarly" written and 3) I didn't care for the Castle and Beckett things going on between Jane and Lisbon and 4) after the team practically broke several laws in trying to apprehend Red John...why and they heck wouldn't they waterboard Lorelei morning, noon and night until she told 'em everything she knew about Red John?

SO, who thinks it's the female FBI Agent that is Red John's informant?

Yep, I was thinking it was Special Agent Susan Darcy until they opened the back door to the limousine. I'm not sure, but wasn't the guy who was duct taped, had a phone relay around his neck, and was riddled with bullets an FBI Agent. I though I saw him earlier, but I don't know. One thing I know for sure...Red John has a lot of friends in high places.

No, that was the head of CBI. The one that fired Jane. ( I wouldn't want that job. How many have they gone through already? ;))

The one that tipped her off to Lisbon saying, "It looks like...."

I thought she looked relieved he was dead(maybe he knew who kidnapped him), but it may have been that she was upset she killed him....hard to tell.

You know I thought that too but how come they didnt talk about that when they where interrogating Lorelei?

I'll have to go back and take another look. I didn't like the guy/character so no big loss. Bertram was in the first one or two episodes while he was also working on another CBS show (Unforgettable, I think). I wouldn't mind seeing him return to the show that Unforgettable has been cancelled.

After taking a closer look, I would have to say that was indeed the annoying CBI supervisor based on the suit he was wearing. Agent Darcy would appear to be the likely Red John mole suspect. However, Jane developed a pretty good relationship with Susan so I feel this question could go either way. The situation reminds me of when everyone suspected that Bertram was feeding Red John information about the CBI investigation. But that proved to be incorrect since Van Pelt's fiance was the mole.

I'm a little disappointed in Season 4 because I thought we would get to meet more of Red John's friends (e.g., the ones in power)...but we did not. However, after the finale I think the show will take a turn in that direction. We shall see...

The Biggest Creep of Season 4

- There weren't a lot of creeps this past season, but my vote would overwhelming go to James Panzer. Panzer was the devoted blogger and subject matter expert of the San Joaquin Killer (SJK) in episode: "The Mentalist" Blinking Red Light (TV episode 2011) - IMDb Anyway, this self-absorved creepy guy was baited by Jane into publically professing that he thought Red John was an amatured compared to SJK. He was later found dead, murdered by Red John. If you'll recall, Patrick did this intentionally because Panzer was, in fact, the SJK who managed to leave no evidence. Great show and great creep; he gets my vote!

- Brett Stiles, the cult-leader, is certainly creepy and very entertaining...but he takes a backseat to SJK.

- Lorelei was creeey in a very nice and sexy way. Although she is a nutjob who is personally involved with Red John...well, you really don't mind death by her hands. :)

Questions going into Season Five:

  • Was it Special Agent Luther Wainwright who was the new CBI boss, the one who fired Jane, and was later killed by Red John in the season finale? The new boss was not a major factor and, for whatever reason, I have no idea what his name is.
  • Regardless, I wonder if we'll see Director Burtram return to the show now that Unforgettable (he played a detective on the show) has been cancelled. Bertram was briefly in the season premiere and was not seen again during the season. Offhand, I think we'll see Bertram return to the show next season.
  • So does the search for Red John pick-up steam next season or is it merely a hobby for Jane like it was during Season 4? To be honest, I don't see how Jane's pursuit of Red John cannot pick-up intensity since RJ murdered a CBI agent, and the FBI is also hotly invovled in this case.
  • Will Lorelei be a major factor in Season 5 or will she just go to prison and disappear? Jane was convinced that she would talk...so I'm betting she will return to the show.
  • Okay, what about tht crazy lady/convict who escaped to a tropic island? Will we see her again next season? I betcha we do!
  • We all know Red John has more moles in the FBI and CBI...but who are they? Show has been, or will be, recruited by Red John?

With the show being moved from Thursday to Sunday night...how will this move affect ratings and is this the final year of The Mentalist? Offhand, the 10pm ratings on Thursday night were stellar...just dont see them doing as well on Sunday night. This show has enough episodes to be signed into syndication so this show may be gone after next season. We shall see...

I've been watching a day or two after the fact - not liking the 10:00 PM Sunday broadcast time. Jane was certainly tripping. My take-away: this was a prelude for Jane pursuing a relationship with Lisbon. His hallucination (daughter) kept insisting that he build some kind of life outside of searching for Red John. We shall see.
