The LeBron James Free Agency Thread

Secret reason why LeBron will stay
Esquire's Scott Raab is honest -- "I have absolutely no clue what happened to LeBron in the Celtics series or where he'll be playing next year" -- but he also may be on to something. After Buzz Bissinger wrote in The New York Times that LeBron may be afraid to leave Ohio, Raab, who has been around the Cavs since last June while working on a book, is convinced The King will stay in Cleveland if only to protect his family. More specifically, his mother. "His number-one goal in life is not an NBA championship," Raab said. "It's to protect her, and to protect himself. And I see no way for him to do that if he moves to New York City."

Sources: Bosh gives Raptors wish list

ESPN.com news services

CHICAGO -- Chris Bosh's agent has told the Toronto Raptors that he's narrowed his list of preferred teams to five, two sources told ESPN.com's Chad Ford at the NBA draft camp.

The list of five teams -- Toronto plus the Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat and New York Knicks, sources said -- was given to Toronto management in case the Raptors want to construct a sign-and-trade deal (assuming Bosh doesn't re-sign with Toronto).

Bosh likes that option, sources told Ford, because he'd get one more year on his contract and could make more money.

Sources said the Raptors prefer a sign-and-trade if Bosh is intent on leaving as well. They likely would want a big man to replace the 6-10, 230-pound Bosh in the lineup.

One source said Bosh's decision hinges on where LeBron James signs.

"If LeBron decides to go to either New York or Chicago, I think that's where you'll see Chris land," the source told Ford. "If LeBron stays in Cleveland, I think the process is more wide open."

Bosh, 26, is an unrestricted free agent. He averaged 24 points per game last season and has averaged 20.2 points per game for his career.

Hmm, I wonder if Obama can get fined by the league too?? ;)

If LeBron James isn't sure he can win in Cleveland, President Barack Obama thinks there's an opportunity with his hometown Chicago Bulls.

"You know, like I said, I don't want to meddle," Obama told TNT. "I will say this: [Derrick] Rose, Joakim Noah it's a pretty good core. You know, you could see LeBron fitting in pretty well there."

Who cares where he goes or stays. Poor Bron needs his first ring already so everyone can leave him alone and stop making fun and teasing him how bad he has choked over the years. Jordan took 6 seasons, Bryant in 4 and Wade in 3 for their first rings.. Cmon Lebron, you falling behind pal and you don't want to join these guys do ya?

Never understood the advantage in going to Chicago. Sure they have Derrick Rose, but who else? Noah is a Varajao clone. From top to bottom, the Cavs still have a much superior roster compared to the Bulls. It takes more than just two players to win a Championship. It takes a team and I still think the Cavs have one of the best teams in the NBA.

I just do not understand this whole "choke" business.:mad: He has not choked....just that his supporting cast did not...ah...support.

But look at it this way. In Chicago, you have one of the top 15 players in the league in Rose ...and more the likely, top 5 point guards in the league. Noah, a Varajao clone with better offense, IMPO. Hinrich and Deng become expenable and perfect for a sign and trade to Toronto for Bosh.

....NOW look at that team: Bosh, Noah, Rose... a team with THAT nucleus is almost as good as the CAVS. You add Lebron in the mix....that COULD BE the best starting nucleus of young talent in the league....EASILY....and for a long time too.

Ugh. You're right. Now, let's not hope that doesn't actually happen. :(

I agree, choke is not the right word. Lebron had a bad games five and six, but he did not choke. Something else happened, though...

He a few bad game...and YES, I agree something did happen. But WHERE was the rest of the team...? And SOMETHING happened between the best player on the team and the coach. Hence a fired coach. THAT, I think tells alot. I think with Brown gone, it improves the chances of Lebron staying.

...here is the real sh**** part in this. Here is a coach that help coach his team to 60 wins 2 years in a row....and STILL gets fired??!!

...the patients are running the asylum...

The 'rest of the team' is not what led Cleveland to 60 wins. Let's be honest, take Lebron James off Cleveland and that team may not beat the Nets. Despite all the posts after the trade, Antwan Jamison proved is no Scottie Pippen.

For better or worse the team IS Lebron James.

There is NO DOUBT in my mind, this team makes the playoffs without Lebron. Whether they win a series or not, that is another story.

Agree. I don't buy the argument that LeBron doesn't have any talent surrounding him. A single individual doesn't win 60+ games in two consecutive years.

The '07 Cavs, you could make that argument, but not the Cavs team that has been assembled these last two years. This team was stacked. We rolled through everyone we played, including the Celtics, Magic and Lakers. Something just wasn't right come playoff time. It was like we forgot how to play all of a sudden. The Cavs in the playoffs were not the same team I watched all season long.

Well...that comes back to what I have said all along....the regular season means nothing. Look at the Celtics...they more or less cruised during the regular to get through and growing pains(the emergence of the team NOW being Rondo's team) and injuries and have peaked at the perfect time. And two, something happened with the communication with Brown/coaching staff and the team, especially Lebron.

Hypothetical Question

Let's say LeBron signs with someone else. Doesn't that still make Cleveland a major player in attaining one of the top-knotch free agents? (Ie. Dwayne Wade)? After all, we'll have the money freed up if we don't sign LeBron.

My pitch to Wade is this: With LeBron, this team won 60+ games two years in a row. With the same core in tack, and we swap LeBron out for you, this team is still a great team. On the team you're on now, Mr. Wade, you barely make the playoffs. Plus, you have what's needed to take the next step in our progress that LeBron doesn't: Championship Experience! So, what do you say Mr. Wade? Sign right here on the dotted line to come to Cleveland........

OK I guess I'm just not following this line of thinking...

Who exactly are the good players on Cleveland?

You are thinking individually. As a team, they WERE, at least on paper, 2 deep at just about every position with quality, proven and yet still young, talent. It is, at least IMHO, the coaching staffs job to meld all that talent ASAP.

Lebron did everything in his power, and I think THAT team proved they cannot pass the test...two years of having the best record and not getting to the NBA Finals was proof enough for LBJ that they just could not cut the mustard.

What's Cleveland's available cap space looking like?? Adding Jamison's contract certainly didn't help....
