He is now converting my Verizon local phone service and Verizon DSL service over to the FiOS Triple Freedom Bundle. He said it will only be about 90 more minutes.

And no, I am not giving up DirecTV, but since the Triple Freedom pricing is so attractive, I am adding FiOS to only one of my HDTVs for comparison purposes - I can't see changing over everything - FiOS still is extremely weak in the sports arena (sic), and I am a NFL-ST and MLB-EI devotee.

I am looking forward to having both actually.

I do not have FiOS in my area but I am always looking for tv provider comparison from people.

Well - I am up and running. The tech is buttoning everything up right now. I will say that the guy was professional and clean - he has been with Verizon for many years.

A little different than dealing with an outside contractor for wiring and installation. The Verizon van had just about anything you would need for any kind of installation. I don't see them having to do much rescheduling due to not having what is needed with them.

Oh yeah - as far as the FiOS TV - I quickly scrolled though the HD channels with the tech - they look good for sure, now I just have to learn what is what and where they all are. And yes, there are lots of them. I am getting movies for free for 90 days - so that is good as well. From a QUICK look, the PQ is not any different than what I have in MPEG4 from DirecTV. I will give a more studied post after a couple of weeks.

The FiOs remote is way confusing for me right now, nothing like the D* remotes. I am not making a judgement on better or worse, just that they are way different.

So - it is off to a good start.

Oh. and the FiOS internet is way faster than my Verizon DSL was. Amazing.

What about changing channels or the response of the remote. Any quicker than Direct??

Channels do change quicker than on DirecTV - I must say that I don't see any real PQ difference between FiOS and the MPEG4 offering on D*.

Certainly nothing to say is flat out, cut and dried being better as far as PQ. The HD channel offering on FiOS for right now is really very good, but the 'absolute' number of HD channels is about the same between the two of them. FiOS has many more premium movie channels right now, and of course D* has way more HD sports channels.

There is nothing I see that would cause me to switch totally over to FiOS - but I do like having both here and available. For the 'non' sports enthusiast FiOS is a better choice IMHO.

Any new Hd Channels due out?

Interesting letter from Comcast
