The Dust Bowl is the reason most of my cousins live in California and up to the Pacific NW now. Most of my grandparents siblings migrated west. They say if not for the advancements in land preservation, Oklahoma would be in another Dust bowl now. Half of the state has crossed into extreme drought conditions with rainfall nearing 20 inches below normal for the last 2 years. Many ranchers have been selling off their cattle due to the lack of grass and hay the past few months. It's going to cost a fortune to feed them grain throughout winter, with the poor hay harvests. This is the first time that I can remember Cities are ordering mandatory water rationing during the fall and into winter. We had a small dust storm that blew up a few weeks ago, that was miserable. It's just impossible to fathom just how bad it was back then.
