Hi folks,

has anyone experience with equipment from Swedish Microwave?

While shopping around for equipment I found their page.
Looks like they have something to put an LNB together to receive 10.7-12.7 linear AND circular. As far as i could understand the specs, they "convert" the circular signal to linear.
I already send them an email, but they are closed until August (summer vacation!?)

The Invacom QPH-031 (and the QPF-031) were developed for the unique North American market, where linear and circular are both so common.
They do go for a premium over regular LNBs, but are not priced outrageously.
That is our typical solution when we need to have both on one dish, at the same focal point.

...and i think that's the one on my shopping list.
Even if i miss some feeds in the below 11.7 area between the 91W and 37.5 W birds.
I'm some kind of tech-geek (more or less), that's why i am always looking for something better
I might don't need it, but it is nice to know that i have it/could use it.

...with other words, it is, in many cases, the (ultimate) optimum i am looking for.

Same thing with dishes... why should i mount a 36" offset with HH-Motor, if i can mount a 4' offset with actuator...

Or more to the point, why should only one dish be optimized for all applications, when you can distribute the optimizations across several dishes, or several LNBs on one or more dishes, to achieve the total solution.?.! -

There is no one best answer. No point in shooting for it.
Little dishes are fine for the stronger signals.
(of course, I have no clue what rain-fade is) - -

Same is true with receivers.
Look at some of the intense FTAers on this forum....
... you'll recognize them with time.
They probably look down on those of us with fewer than 4 dishes and 4 receivers. -

...i could run into some trouble with the HOA... which i don't mind
My plan so far (yep, still planning)... T-90 for all "important" birds and one 120cm with motor.
The area where i can set up the dishes is some kind of tight (top of the patio deck, facing east). Rough measured limits 37.5 W (end of the footprint) to ~177W on the outer edge of the deck. Next to it the house will stop me at ~150W.
Even my idea with a 6' BUD (C-Band) at ground level will be limited in between ~85W-125W, because of some trees to the left on an green belt and my house to the right.

To give you an idea what i am talking about...

The T90 and the 120cm would probably be more likely to be a problem for the HOA (at least in the USA) OTARD will let you put as many 90cm dishes as there are satellites in the sky with channels you want to view. The T90 and the 120cm are both larger than OTARD protections allow.

Good points about OTARD and the 1 meter(?) dish size limit, vs. multiple dishes.

The setup in this photo is, as far as I can tell, 100% OTARD compliant. Any HOA that cites a guy for his T90 should be show this photo and asked to "have another think about it."

Yea... the HOA...

After reading the "FCC Fact Sheet on Placement of Antennas" over and over again, more or less every single word, i could see following points...

1) The HOA can't overrule the FCC
2) The rule applies only on dishes made for usage like DN, DTV or whatever.
3) If i need a bigger dish, like the T-90 or a 120cm, to receive "acceptable quality signal" they can't do much about it.

Please let me know if i am totally wrong

The way I (a non-expert on the subject) understand it...

1)Correct.
2)OTARD applies to dishes used for FTA satellite as well as pay services provided the dish measures 1 meter or less across in all directions
3)Except for in Alaska, OTARD only covers dishes measuring 1 meter or less.

Re. #3, what you may be misinterpreting is the language that prohibits a government agency or HOA from saying, for example, "Sure, you can have your 1 meter dish, but you have to put it in your north-facing backyard (where there is no clear line-of-sight to the satellite and no chance of your receiving an acceptable quality signal)

on the other hand, why shouldn't i mount my 120cm.

There are many points on the can/can't do list from the HOA.
When i look/drive around the neighborhood, there are at least 40% of homeowners that do something that's not 100% in line with the HOA.
Like repairing cars in the garage, parking boats on the street and and and...

If you don't make a problem of it, they likely won't either.
Our own Iceberg lives in a "controlled community", and he has a number of reasonable dishes out back.
Then, from time to time, he rolls out a 6' in his driveway for special events.
. . . and invites neighbors over to watch, I believe. -

I talked yesterday to someone from the HOA about a dish > 100cm.
She just said "that's fine and if it's getting too large, please make sure the dish is more or less in the same color as the house, so it doesn't look like a TV-Station".

I would say that's all i want to know. :up

Just as long as the operation doesn't turn into a "Discus Throw" contest, with the dish acting as the discus...

Problem is, I know I'll be needing another dish. Where it must be aimed is something that I'll have to find out during the first week of August Might just end up installing that long-awaited second motorized assembly.
