Statement from DISH - Not Getting the New HD?

That’s great Scott; now if Charlie will just seriously consider your views and suggestions he will have a much better running company.

I am surprised that he has not offered you a position or at least hire you as an outside consultant like many companies do to improve their operations. :):up

Why buy the cow when you are already getting the milk for free?

;)

The plot thickens. After getting the $15 upgrade CSR Alex promised me this past weekend, I checked my bill and...there a $95 charge there.

I just called and CSR Trisha informed me that the charge is vailid and I must pay it. I asked to speak to someone else and she told me that company policy was the same and talking to someone else would make no difference. I insisted and she forwarded me to supervisor John.

John removed the $95 without any questions. He said that good customers should get the benefit of the doubt on such a misunderstanding.

This was still a major PR f---up on the part of DISH, but hopefully it's now going to work out for me.

I'm anxious to know what happens. In another thread, Scott says that they've sent out a notice to the effect that they'll be moving other channels from 61.5 to 72.7, so people should get their dishes switched. So they'd better come up with a solution for our area! Not getting the locals in HD is bad enough, but to not be able to get some of them at all due entirely to their own stupidity is ridiculous.

Tech was here at 2:30. Took eastern arc dish down, replaced with a 500 and a temporary 500 to see if it would work. Same thing - still couldn't get 3 locals. This time it would go from 61.5 to 72.7. Did not make any sense! Then he took the one 500 off that was pointed at 72.7. He replaced superdish with 1000.2 western arc. Points at 110, 119 and 129. Works like a champ!! Luckily I have LOS for 129. Now I have all locals and new HD. They do not have the 1000.2 - he got this off another retailer. So I guess I'm one of the lucky ones now. I still only have 2 dishes. They told me they think all they'll have to do now is add a wing dish to 129. So most will have 3 dishes unless you can find a 1000.2.

129? Ugh! I rather doubt that I'd be able to get that here without a tower.

Unless they move any existing channels first, I think I'm going to wait and see if they do anything about the location of the HD locals -- although if they do, I now doubt that it'll involve putting them on 119 or 110 as they originally told someone.

People keep saying that there's few or no interesting channels on 77. I haven't checked it out myself yet. If that's the case, I wonder if there's some switch that would combine a standard 300- or 500-size dish on 72.7 with an oversized dish on 61.5. A relative has an oversized dish on 61.5 now and she gets the HD locals most of the time, but she has the 110/119 setup with its built-in port for the 61.5 dish. I haven't asked her yet if she's aware that she's not getting all the national HD now...

Like they say, third time's a charm! My first appointment was a now show, when I called I was told that the automated system rescheduled me, but no one told me. On my second, there was too much snow on the roof, but I was told no adding 129 to my 110/119/61.5 setup that they are only doing EA, so I rescheduled for a week later and bought a 612 off eBay to replace a 625.

My conversion was completed yesterday. Tech showed at 8:15 for an 8:00 to 12:00 appointment. He didn't leave here until almost 2:00. It was raining hard most of the time and I have a two story home with four dual tuner receivers. He took out my two DP34 switches and installed a DP44 with seperators. He left up the Dish500 that was facing 110/119 and replaced my Dish 300 that was pointed at 61.5 with a Dish 1000.4. I get all of the additional nine channels. My signal levels are much lower than they were on 110 and 119, with the signal at 61.5 dropping from 65 with the Dish 300 to 50 with the 1000.4. But so far no problems with rain fade, so for $15 all is good.

What is your current setup? How are the two dishes hooked into the DP44 and then into the four dual tuner receivers? Are you getting all five satellites, 110/119, 61.5/72.7 and 77 or is 77 omitted.

For those of you getting the $15 upgrade, are you having to sign up for the Dish Service Plan first? If so, did you do that in the same chat session/phone call as getting the $15 charge or did you do it beforehand? And also if so, doesn't that add $6 to get the upgrade, plus however many months you have to keep paying to avoid the $25 charge?

I got my upgrade at no charge- so far- and I have no service plan. But with 1k4 replacing my dish 500 my signal on 61.5 is low and on 72.7. I was hoping for a third dish pointing at 72.7 but didnt happen.

I Paid $15 , But I've had the Protection plan since I've started with Dish Newtwork back in July 2007.

Yep, You need a 500+ Dish for your Eastern arc setup.
They Use the Dish 500+ Reflector, instead of the 1000.4 Reflector. At 24x32 its much bigger then the 1000.4 22x28. It makes a Big Difference for signal strength.
And its the same size as Directv's Slimline.

I noticed that you have the 500+setup. I am having Dish come again this Saturday. I have the Eastern Ark Dish 1000.4 but my signals are low (77 is 19 and 72.7 is 36). The signal at 61.5 is 45 but that is the same signal that I received off the Dish 500. I might suggest 500+ to the tech that comes Saturday. The last one spent a half hour trying to get all three signals.

You could suggest, But if they don't have them on the truck, my guess you won't get one.
The Installers out of Our Local office, Now installs the 500+ for eastern arc customers who have issues with the 1000.4 dish. Thats in NorthEastern Pa ,I'm not sure what your local installers do.
I had a call back because of the signal in the snow with the 1000.4, So thats why I think he thought the (Plus) would be better. And he was right!:)

I havent measured mine but it doesnt seem much bigger than old dish- just did measure it - 22x28

Good luck cobbling that together and trying to make it work.
As technicians it is not within our job description to create new equipment on site.
It either works or it doesn't.
The arm, polar plate and lnb are desinged for a specific reflector.
The polar plate must match the arm which must match the LNB.
Now if one wishes to become a metal fabricator, I would say give it a shot.
We are not mobile metal shops.

IMO the 1000.4 reflector is undersized.
However there is no rwason to do this. There is no reason why these people in PA should be having these signal issues based solely on the reflector.
There has to be some other cause. I am thinking there may be a line of sight problem that for which the customers are unaware.
Perhaps they can post photos.

This is called the 1000.5 and is E* approved. This thread is from Jan. 2009. See the pdf included from E*.

I wonder if there's some switch that would combine a standard 300- or 500-size dish on 72.7 with an oversized dish on 61.5. A relative has an oversized dish on 61.5 now and she gets the HD locals most of the time, but she has the 110/119 setup with its built-in port for the 61.5 dish.
I can't believe nobody answered this question yet. The answer is we would use a DPP44 switch. Those of us with mixed-arc setups would then keep our Dish 500 on 110/119 and then add something else on 72/61.5, with all four inputs going into the DPP44. In this unsupported configuration, and please correct me if I'm wrong, we wouldn't be missing anything on 77 because it's duplicated on either 110 or 119.

Thanks. But would you have to pay for it yourself, since Dish doesn't want unconventional setups? I thought a DPP44 was expensive, but I honestly don't know anything about Dish's switch terminology since I have a single receiver with the one-wire / separator feed.
