Stargate SG-1 Discussion

Another thing about season 1 - not only were they getting comfortable in their characters, the show made several adjustments that just made sense -- for example, while I would suspect it is absolutely likely that if you were dematerialized and rematerialized across the galaxy in a stable worm-hole, that you'd have one heck of a case of nausea - but to have the characters go through that EVERY TIME every episode, just did not make sense. Same with the cold/frosty look in the very beginning. Not necessary to the story.

But the first season also had some great episodes too. The Nox, Thor's Hammer, the Torment of Tantalus, Hathor, singularity... Yeah, I could do without The Broca Divide, or even The Enemy Within.

Odd. Hathor is one we decidedly did NOT like.

Writing seems uneven, episode to episode, or even within an episode. Oh well, only two more episodes to go on disc 4.

I did not dislike Hathor - enjoyed with the women used their wiles to help save the day. :)

Yeah, the writing was not as consistent first season, but believe me, it gets better. :D

Folks, you have to remember, this series began on Showtime and they had it in what was then their "Sci-Fi Friday" line-up, along with The New Outer Limits and The Twilight Zone. The latter lasted, what, 2 seasons, while the New Outer Limits ran 3-4 seasons. So, SG1 was trying to find it's footing during the 1st season. The writers and producers were working out the whole scifi/horror/fantasy genre thing and the mix in the style and quality of the episodes in the first season shows that struggle with the "what are we?" question. Seasons 2-5, which were all on Showtime also, shows how they worked it out and found out "what they were" very clearly, particularly from about mid-season 2 through 5, and then seasons 6-10 on what is now Syfy.

Seasons 2-5 will always be my favorites, but 6-10 has also has loads of terrific episodes and story arcs...just not quite as rock-solid as seasons 2-5...

Nice concise and accurate summary.

Well said.

I'm running low on space in my bedroom dvr, yet still hate to delete Revelations, Meridian, Sentinel & Last Stand (all HD) along with the final 6 SGU episodes... (Directv dvr so can't archive to EHDD)...

Maybe a Hauppauge or DVD burner, and some free time, will find their way to you!
