Any chance we'll be getting PBS kids SPROUT on Dish? My daughter really loves that channel.
How much difference exists in content/programming between "Sprout" and the PBS Kids channel available OTA on PBS's digital sub-channels?
They are pretty close to the same programming. The misconception here is thinking everyone
has or can receive this programming OTA.
Terrain has alot to do with reasons people can't get OTA, Not Coverage.Based upon where I live in North Carolina -- along with nearby Georgia and South Carolina -- statewide OTA Public Televisions are probably the easiest to receive, compared to the commercial TV stations broadcasting ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, etc. Most statewide Public Television networks want to cover the entire state and if there are gaps left by their full-power transmitting stations, they are filled with translators. Again, this is based on my part of the country -- your mileage may vary.

There are Millions that can't get OTA if they wanted too.
If you have locals channels on Dish Network, then PBS plays the same programming as Sprout, Where do we all think it came from.
So what, Sprout isn't carried in HD anywhere.Hemi,
While that is true most local market HD packs do not include the Local PBS in HD, and no local market packages include the PBS sub-channels.

A good substitute at this time is channel 169-Nick Jr.
Under 3?If you have young kids you'd REALLY understand.
My 3 year old like Barney .I have 2 kids, 3 and under, and Nick Jr and Sprout are pretty much tied, as far as which programs get asked for (especially Thomas on Sprout) . Only a couple of shows on Disney they like to watch and they do not ask for them, though Chuggington is almost there.... (probably when they get older)
That comment was more aimed at Jhon's substitute remark.....
Sprout was the one reason why I stuck with comcast for so long (Then ditched it for dish a couple of years ago). It's better then nick jr. Before I canceled comcast, I recoded a few hours (straight, with ads and everything) onto a dvd for my kid.Sorry Hemi, PBS does not play the same programming as Sprout, there is some overlap in shows, yes, but Sprout has different and more shows, and shows kids programming all day and night.
If you have young kids you'd REALLY understand.
actually that is false. If there is a PBS in your market you are disqualified from getting the national feed even if Dish doesnt carry your locals yetAnd As far as your last Statement, thats totally false, PBS is Available to everyone. Dish Will offer it A la Carte, if you don't have it with your locals
I don't Know of any City that doesn't have PBS.
