Sprout on Dish?

How much difference exists in content/programming between "Sprout" and the PBS Kids channel available OTA on PBS's digital sub-channels?

They are pretty close to the same programming. The misconception here is thinking everyone

has or can receive this programming OTA.;)

Based upon where I live in North Carolina -- along with nearby Georgia and South Carolina -- statewide OTA Public Televisions are probably the easiest to receive, compared to the commercial TV stations broadcasting ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, etc. Most statewide Public Television networks want to cover the entire state and if there are gaps left by their full-power transmitting stations, they are filled with translators. Again, this is based on my part of the country -- your mileage may vary.

Terrain has alot to do with reasons people can't get OTA, Not Coverage.
There are Millions that can't get OTA if they wanted too.
If you have locals channels on Dish Network, then PBS plays the same programming as Sprout, Where do we all think it came from.

Where I live I am 70+ miles to the transmitters so I don't have an amplified antenna and rotor

up anymore (that looks like a battleship) over my house.I receive all programming by

satellite.:)

Also I sleep alot better when those 60 m.p.h. winds come through.

Hemi,

While that is true most local market HD packs do not include the Local PBS in HD, and no local market packages include the PBS sub-channels.

So what, Sprout isn't carried in HD anywhere.
You Have a Much better chance of PBS in HD. And Who cares if Clifford,Sesame Street,Dragon tales,Barney are in HD.

Really Com 'on now.
And As far as your last Statement, thats totally false, PBS is Available to everyone. Dish Will offer it A la Carte, if you don't have it with your locals

Sorry Hemi, PBS does not play the same programming as Sprout, there is some overlap in shows, yes, but Sprout has different and more shows, and shows kids programming all day and night.

A good substitute at this time is channel 169-Nick Jr.;):)

Not really, that's kind of like saying A&E is a substitute for Discovery, completely different shows/characters/programming.

If you have young kids you'd REALLY understand. :)

I have 2 kids, 3 and under, and Nick Jr and Sprout are pretty much tied, as far as which programs get asked for (especially Thomas on Sprout) :). Only a couple of shows on Disney they like to watch and they do not ask for them, though Chuggington is almost there.... (probably when they get older)

That comment was more aimed at Jhon's substitute remark.....

Sprout was the one reason why I stuck with comcast for so long (Then ditched it for dish a couple of years ago). It's better then nick jr. Before I canceled comcast, I recoded a few hours (straight, with ads and everything) onto a dvd for my kid.

actually that is false. If there is a PBS in your market you are disqualified from getting the national feed even if Dish doesnt carry your locals yet

OTA or at all? There are lots of markets that dont have a PBS OTA but they have it imported in from a neighboring DMA. I think any of those 1 or even 2 channel DMA's qualify that way ;)

Here is what dish needs to do when they add Sprout since they're running out of channel spaces: They should move Spike TV to channel 104 (next to USA) and put Sprout on ch. 168 next to Nick Jr. Spike TV should be moved regardless of whether Sprout is added.

61.5/72.7 combination

Hoping not another 722 HD failure...
