Probably because Spike still mostly occupies the same channel number on cable and satellite as its predecessor "The Nashville Network". TNN's fare was all family-friendly, hence it's location near the kids/family channels.

It's interesting that Comcast has both Nick Jr. and PBS Sprout.So does DirecTV.

Maybe that's why Dish's programming packages are cheaper?.
