Some potentially interesting HD test channels

Everyone wants all the channels that they like to be in HD. That's natural. The reality is that one man's treasure is another man's trash.

I don't have or want any HBO or Cinemax channels as part of my package. They don't fit my viewing habits. I'm sure that some of the channels that I watch would not be watched by some here for the same reason.

DirecTV can't be all things to all people, but it does a pretty good job of pleasing most in my view.

DirecTV does not do a good job of pleasing most. They do a good job of pleasing the sports crowd,, sure, but they DO NOT take movie fans seriously. This goes back way beyond HD. DirecTV has re-signed how many carriage contracts since the late 90's? They could have added HBO Comedy and HBO Zone along the way and never did. They could have added Actionmax, Thrillermax, Wmax, @max, Outermax, 5StarMax along the way, but didn't. Meanwhile, cable picked up all 26 SD HBO/MAX channels in many areas. So in my opinion it is bad enough they don't carry those channels in SD.


Who here is "pleased" with the SD or HD premium channel offerings of DirecTV? Not I!

I'll never understand why some people take the time to bitch about other people bitching. What's great about personal freedom is that you can just simply ignore them if you don't like what they are saying.

There are several reasons why people don't switch including: contracts, lack of other options, inconvenience and restrictions due to living in a co-op, condo or apartment.

Criticism is valuable in helping make things better. If no one spoke their mind, how would a situation you are dissatisfied with ever improve? I would hope that DTV and other providers read and listen to comments, criticisms and suggestions so that they can improve their offerings. I would hope they would be reading online forums like this. I know I actively search the web for unhappy comments posted about the company I work for so that I might help to correct deficiencies or problems.

I also hope that everyone who is unhappy writes directly to the company in case they aren't actively searching online for this information.

That's what I did; I was disappointed in what Dish offered in HD sports coverage and moved to Direct. I want HD sports over movies. If I want a HD movie I have a blue ray player I use or rent it in HD on ppv. Would be nice to get both but bandwidth prevents it until the sky’s are full of satellites.

I assume you are referring to me. I, like many others across America have DirecTV by choice. I love the DVR and many aspects of the service. What I don't like is the lack of commitment to movie fans. DirecTV made a June 2007 press release announcing more HBO and Cinemax channels. December of 2007 came and went and we never got the channels. While they may have forgotten, we have not.

As far as paying or services we are not happy with. We all do it. Think: Income tax

DIRECTV just needs to get real here and add more HD premium channels. If they put half the effort into premiums as they do sports, we'd be getting 13 HBO/MAX channels.

At the other site, tracking of the D* transponder data for D10 and D11 has shown some interesting test channels. Recently there has been some test channels but now some of those test channels have names in the comments sections of the test channels. Now these comments could mean nothing, but it could be an indication of some of what could be coming.

True. Better late than never. By May, the Access magazine should, at a minimum, list HBO2 and Signature as HD channels. But I expect we'll see some more
