You are right on all statements. Comcast did not allow moving back and forth, the Comcast dvr would record to whichever drive had the largest amount of storage left.
A feature that Comcast had is it would record to whichever had the most space.
A good question is:
What happens when Im outta town and my 622 fills up, will it move files to the ext? Will it record to the ext after that?
This is an issue E* needs to consider. Sometimes Im gone for 2 weeks.
If itll fill up the 622 then quit with a empty external, that sucks.

Will you have to physically move the external HDD's between your 622/722s? Will there be a way to seamlessly share recordings between all ViP receivers in your house?
This is confusing. Next time you talk to your source, here's what I'd like clarified: Is it just between a 622 and a 722? What about between two 622s, or other ViP receivers? And how are they actually connected? USB? Ethernet? Coax? Powerline/DishComm?

Id assume if they were to be connected (to transfer), it would be ethernet. Its the cheapest and fastest way to get it done. Try transfering 1hr's worth (about 7gb of MPEG2HD) over a powerline, you will be there for a while.

The scary part about that was that it cost them significant money to deny you touch tone service. Almost as hairy as party lines.
This is great- I've been DVRing HD movies and making standard anamorphic DVDs out of them...they look just about as good as a commercial DVD! But I use a kind of convoluted lengthy process, so I'm often DVRing them them faster than I can pull them off. I never came close to filling up my hard drive until I started doing that...if I haven't watched a show in a week or two, I'm not going to watch it, so I just dump it. But I've got 12 or 15 HD movies on there right now.
HomePlug 1.0 is supposed to be capable of 14Mbps and HomePlug AV is rated at up to 100Mbps. It would seem that HomePlug is faster than most wireless solutions.
My parent's STILL have pulse dialing. Hell, they still have a rotary phone in the kitchen. Been strapped to the wall since 1974
Haven't read the whole post, will the usb drive work if you get a replacement 622? Mine has issues and I've been waiting to replace it until I can back up my HD recordings. :-O!
Excellent point.. I picked up an HD-A2 from BestBuy 2 weeks ago for $192 (price match of Circuit City's $272 and an $80 gift card). Not long ago an HD-A1 was $1000.. slower and buggy.
For another blast from the past, I remember going to CompUSA and paying $400 for a Western Digital 1 GB drive a little while after it came out. Now we're talking of getting 500 GB external drives for more than half the cost of that.
As already said... early adopters are gonna pay. Myself, I have no problem paying it, but I'm not going to until I actually NEED it. I hover around 20 hours of HD space available on my 622. When I need it, I'll pony up the $40 and never think about that money again.. even if they drop or remove that one-time fee sometime later.
I think somebody asked it up above but I haven't seen a reply yet. Will this feature work with a USB hub, so you can have more than one external drive hooked in simultaneously? Or will we have to keep plugging and unplugging if we have more than one drive?

BTW I have been reading on other boards about this info. They are saying that they don't believe it.
I guess I can tip my hat now and report that this information came directly from the Corporate Communications Office at Dish Network. It dont came anymore direct or official then that. (Since thats where the press releases come from)
It really irks me when the information comes directly from the horses mouth yet these idiots don't believe it until they see it themselves. I am not here to make stuff up folks.

Ya know, I got to thinking about it and while I don't like the fee that dish came up with and I won't be paying it if I ever sub to dish again. I do see that it probably took them a little bit of time to work on and get working enough for public use.
They could either raise everyone's rates or just charge those interested and that is what they are doing.
