Some Interesting Dish Info

Well I can sit back and watch awhile on this one since i have a 211. Will see if USB storage becomes reality for the 211 this December. I would be curious as to the pricing structure for the 211 since it is not a DVR. I hope its not a one time fee in addition to a monthly fee.

Would be willing to pay a one time fee (39.95 isnt bad for this feature) but not another $5 monthly charge. Thats another $60/yr.......i dont think so.

Technical question...can only one external drive be connected to a 622 at one time, or will we be able to use a hub, and connect multiple drives simultaneously, and navigate amongst the recordings on all?

How many hours of storage per GB?

Not easy as the question since it varies, SD, HD, MP2, MP4 Could be 4 different mixtures of program per Gb. What you stated is close for HD MP2 program.

Your anwer is correct but let me restate the question. I'm not interested in SD, only HD. And since Dish is moving towards MP4 I'm interested in MP4 HD storage. Again thanks. :D

Scott, did they mention any more information about the 722? I read that the 722 will have a 500GB hard drive, but you'll only be able to use half of it since the other half will be used for PPV which is worthless.

I was thinking of upgrading from the 942 to the 722 for the extra hard drive space. I would much rather have a larger internal hard drive and a seamless user experience.

T-Mobile should give me unlimited ringtones for free...
Chevy should put a new SatRadio in my car for free...
The guy that installed my furnace should give me a fancy thermostat for free...
Toshiba should upgrade me to a 1080p model from my 720p for free...
Apple should make my $350 black-and-white iPod into a $250 new color iPod Video for free...

I can't believe people are upset that they have to pay for a new feature that they never had before. If it's worth it to you, pay $40. If not, don't.

Difference is:

Cingular doesn't offer unlimited ring tones for free
Sony does not upgrade for free, etc...

Cable and D* give ext hdd use for free, so whether $40 is worth it for E* to give support is strictly a matter of opinion. Some think it is, some think it isn't.

I personally could care less if they support it, if I have issues ill be on Satguys asking for help :D

That Dish will decide to one day abandon this $40 fee and I will feel dumb for having paid it in the first place. I remember when the OTA 8VSB tuner for a Dish 6000 receiver was $150 and the 8PSK module was $79. I paid for both. Not too long later the 8PSK module was free and the 8VSB could be had from Dish for $9 + shipping.
Get over it.... High-Def DVD players cost $1000 when they came out and plenty of people jumped all over them. Now they can be had for $500 and possibly lower. I still distinctly remember paying $200 for a cd-drive for my PC. I said a drive, a 2x at that, and not a burner, let alone DVD reader or writer.

Early adopters always get screwed. I myself am willing to risk it to be an early adopter :D

Then pay ! And be ready to pay more, for VOD space on your disk for start !

You pay for water in home, so there is will be fee for each faucet !

Actually, when I lived in Virginia Beach, I had to pay a fee when I bought a house for each installed faucet or water consuming/dispensing device. Lot's of homes were being built with the plumbing for an extra bathroom, but no fixtures, just to avoid the fee. So yes, sometimes we do pay a fee for each faucet.

Smith, P. - are you ok? Lately you seem more negative and irritable. Is everything all right in your life?

DirecTV and CableTV dont officially support it and actually tell uses what works today might not work tommorow.

For $40 you get piece of mind that what works today will work tommorow, and if you have an issue you can call them about it. For the other guys you call them about external storage problems and your going to get a big SORRY.

I also know of no provider (granded I have not tried them all) which lets you move shows between drives and also other receivers on your account.

He needs to go visit his neighbor. :D

How will this work. When you plug in a hard drive will the time left just go up and you have however much more room to record stuff or will you have to transfer stuff on and off of the external to be able to view it.

I just do not want this if I am going to have to spend 5-10 minutes transfering stuff back and forth every time I want to view it. Now if plugging in an external drive would simply expand your available recording time then yes I will send them the 40 bucks and buy a drive.

It will play directly off the external drive. You can move recordings onto and off the external drive. But it apparently won't automatically move stuff to the external device, at least not at first.

why phone line?
