Solo DVR ViP 612 buy new?

Is this box activated through the satellite connection? I have no land line and am thinking about going to Dish. I also was thinking of buying the box myself and calling in for activation. Is this possible?

I've called Dish several times and am always told a land line is not needed. but I never asked specifically about this scenario.

Also, where is a good place to buy new Dish DVR's?

Yes, activation comes through the satellite. Many people do this who don't want to pay for (or trust) installers mucking about in their homes. You also avoid a 2 yr commitment this way.

Your lowest cost would be sign up with DISH as a new customer with FREE equipment and install and promotions. The down side is a 2 year lease contract but leasing is not more expensive than owning.
