SNY Gone Tomorrow? (It's Gone!)

In your opinion. If someone really cares about <<insert random HD tv channel>> then it's importance to that individual can be just as much as an RSN to you. So what your argument amounts to is that someone should be able to get out of a contract anytime they lose programming that is really important to them.

Not going to happen because of the significant up front costs the satellite companies invest in equipment and installation for new subs. If people don't want to be stuck with contracts, but all your own equipment. Then you can leave any time and resell the equipment to recover some of your costs.

Beg to differ. If one buys their equipment outright from Dish ,they can avoid the commitment nonsense.
I own my Equipment and will NEVER lease. I plan on upgrading to HD and I will purchase my boxes through a local retailer for which I used to work...BTW, they are selling me the necessary LNB and accessories at dealer cost. I install it myself. Ok, not everyone has that particular luxury. But anyone who decides to save their money can indeed buy equipment and have it installed or do it themselves.

...yet down from last year. Facts work.

DIRECTV U.S. added 174,000 net new customers during the quarter ended September 30, 2010.

DIRECTV U.S. added 663,000 net new subscribers in quarter ended Dec. 31, 2010. Total U.S. subs about 19.2 million.

--------------------
DISH Network lost approximately 29,000 net subscribers during the quarter ended September 30, 2010.

DISH Network lost approximately 156,000 net subscribers during the quarter ended Dec. 31, 2010. Total U.S. subs about 14.1 million.

--------------------

These are the facts that raise concern about the long term health of Dish. Sub numbers are dropping, while D* continues to add subs. Thumbing your nose at the #1 DMA doesn't help matters here.

What SNY and Dish should do if and when the deal is settled is allow all Mets games to be broadcast nationally without any blackouts whatsoever as compensation. I know, wishful thinking, the law is still the law.

Why would they do that the people that need to be compensated are not affected by the blackouts

There are the few of us tri-state natives now living out of the area who are still Mets fans regardless of where we've moved to, those of us who subscribe to the Multi-sport pack have SNY as part of the package (I got the package to watch some college sports and for NFL Red Zone, basically). And SNY was pulled off of Dish across the country, not just in the metro NY area. But like I said, that's just wishful thinking, the law's the law.

Forgot about multi-sports pack

Yea, but Dish doesn't have MLB EI so anyone outside of the NY Sports DMA wouldn't be able to see any games on SNY anyway. So its not a loss to the country so much.

Its well known, if your an out of market football,or Baseball fan, you don't subscribe to Dish Network Period!

<sigh> :no

Coming down of my basketball high after my Wildcats lost last night...getting ready for my annual "move" back to NY to get ready to watch my lowly Mets and see this news on here this morning.

Oh well...guess I'll at least save a few $$$ on the multi-sport pack I was keeping thru the offseason for SNY. Sounds silly I suppose, but I'm going to miss my daily dose of "Loudmouths". Always enjoyed Shein and Carlin's good arguments. :(

Off to cancel that multi-sport pack...

You are confusing # of subs and Profit. Two very different things. I don't think Dish wants to lose subs generally, but they did seem to make an effort (link posted in another thread) to eliminate non profitable subs. In the industry, some felt it was a very smart move.
To tie into this thread, Dish to me has just decided the NY market where sports is concerned is too expensive. They obviously are willing to lose NY customers who want these RSN's. I'm not defending or opposing, I just think those are the facts.

What I don't get is those (unless under contract) who at this point are complaining. It's simple, in addition to posting about it, vote with your money and go to another provider. For what it's worth, I do think Dish should concentrate on getting and keeping the RSN's if at all possible, but not worry about EI or NFL premiums. And as I posted, I do think dish should allow people something in return for not having an RSN that Dish had when they signed up. Including allowing them to end their contract.
Same for part-time RSN's. I don't like the small print on a particular page that attempts to tell new subscriber that their RSN will be part time HD. So again, unless under contract, you now know this, change providers if it bothers you. Since most every game for me is in HD, that is good enough for me, because overall Dish gives me want I want more than other providers.

And above all this, we are blaming the wrong people, Dish or Direct or Cable. It is the sports networks that need to change. I don't believe it was envisioned that there would be more than two RSN's in a market. Or, that they would become one of the most expensive channels to carry.
Unless the RSN's consolidate, and/or allow them to be put as an add on to the packages, this is not going to go away.

Desperate time ...

My brother lives in Queens, could I use his MLB.com account to stream Mets games via PS3 ? If I could, I would buy the package and use his account ... will that work?

I'm a former NYer living in Florida. In order to see my Mets and NY football I 'moved' back to NY following my Florida installation. With DISH dropping all the NY RSNs I guess have to sign up with DIREC and buy the football and baseball packages unless I can 'move' with them as well. If I give up on NY football I could also go with Brighthouse or FIOS and get the baseball package. Also as someone mentioned earlier, I will miss not just the games but also the sports shows such as Loudmouths.

Wouldn't Mets games be blacked out on MLB.com if he is in the METS market? You are also in the METS market, so even if you signed on from your home, I'm thinking the IP will show you can not get METS games.

Based on nothing but instinct, I think Dish will come to terms with SNY, because SNY needs cash.

Thanks. In all honesty that's what I thought, but wanted to double check. I am on vacation in 2 weeks and as much as I do not want to, that will be the deadline for me to switch if SNY contract not resolved.

My brother in law does that for Phillies games down here, Comcast isn't on the dishes. Only thing is he has to wait until a half hour after the end of the game to start watching it. I imagine you would have the same restrictions.
