Sling player banned from iPhone apps?

I have a Palm Treo 750 with Slingplayer that worked great for 2 years, but for the past 3 months will not work anywhere in the area where I work. It works fine at home and in other areas. I reported it to Sprint a month ago and there has been no fix. My contract is up in July and I will move to I-phone then. I cannot use any internet applications including Sprint TV or radio. I hate playing for a data plan when nothing works where I want to use it, when it was not an issue for 2 years. :(

Forgot to ask you Scott, did you ask the guy if the iPhone app would eventually be able to watch the live/recorded shows, not just schedule recordings?

The Sling Player is all about streaming live TV. I think you are getting this app confused with the Dish Remote application that was also talked about today.

Not according to Scott's beta review, the Sling/iPhone app currently is just for scheduling recordings and turning the iPhone into a remote.

According to Scott, he has that Sling/iPhone beta app and he reviewed it, it has no playback, only scheduling and turning the iPhone into a remote. Maybe I misunderstood him.

Scott?

There are two Sling applications. One is the Sling Player that has been around for years on other phones and the new one that you are talking about.

I am talking about this Sling iPhone app as the title says, are there two different Sling iPhone apps? Scott was talking about his opinion on the iPhone app using the SlingGuide login, therefore I thought he was talking about this Sling/iPhone app, though only in beta. He talked about only having the scheduling and turning the iPhone into a remote.

Yes there appears to be two different apps. I did not know about the second one until today. The Sling Player as the title here says is the one that streams TV to your phone. It is not the remote scheduling application that you are talking about.

Maybe this second iPhone app should be called the DISH iPhone app, similar to the DirecTV iPhone app. Or maybe this DISH iPhone app (in beta) will eventually be part of the SlingPlayer iPhone app?

To use the iPhone as a remote and to schedule on your DVR you go to the Sling Guide website on the Safari browser. It is not an iPhone app. The title of this thread is in reference to a app that has been submitted to Apple that will enable an iPhone to run a version of Sling Player which will allow you to watch live/recorded shows (provided you have a Sling Box connected at home).

I can't imagine a software that is capable of turning the iPhone into a DISH remote both in look and functions, is not some kind of special iPhone app. Maybe it is not the same Slingplayer iPhone app, but definitely an iPhone app of its own.

All DirecTV did was allowing the iPhone users to go to their site, login and the DirecTV subs can schedule DVR recordings on the iPhone, according to Scott, the schedule functions are not even as good as this DISH iPhone scheduling because the DISH one is two way communication, the DirecTV one is only one way.

But DirecTV has no problem calling theirs an iPhone app.

I'm not a huge fan of ATT but I am not so sure it would be much different with any other carrier. As far as 3G is concerned, T-Mobile is the other choice, but it's not as widespread as ATT is. Otherwise it's CDMA which I really don't think Verizon or Sprint would be any better. Look at how restrictive Verizon is now with their phones and their firmware.

The other thing is why do people think ATT would have issue with Slingbox? Slingbox for the Blackberry and WM devices have been out for a while and I use it on my Blackberry Bold a lot. I even have it on my unlocked Nokia N95 as well using ATT. I know it'll be popular on the iPhone (which I also have) - but it's not like EVERYONE who has an iPhone is interested in Slingbox.
