6 more days before the end of the year. Start the countdown!
And seven more days until I buy some Directv DVR's and a new LNB setup. Going window shopping at Scott's.

Maybe a few more added once the new sat is in orbit in march or so.
Digi, does Sci-fi and USA HD channels still show up on the list but unavailable?
Yep... Scroll down to TP 17 on this link. SatelliteGuys.US - Subscription 110°W
But didn't someone say that these uplinks aren't really the channels (just a slate) - based on the low steady bitrates?
Maybe in the Pub , because I've read all the Uplink threads and this is the first I've heard.Yep.. I've said it a couple of times here and there.
I have to say that I completely understand how Dish Network was the HD leader for a while and DirecTV caught up rather quickly, but Dish Network's ignorance of the fact that their HD compared side-by-side to DirecTV is insanely uneven really worries me. By now, you would think 1 or 2 (like USA HD or Sci-Fi HD) would have popped up for those that use HD programming as a guide for which service they choose. I understand Dish can't add all of DirecTV's HD channels overnight and be even again, but throwing loyal customers a bone should be more common sense than anything. Maybe that's just me though. LOL
Also, that would prevent E* engineers from watching SciFi-HD on their test equipment.
Seems hard to believe, are you sure they are just slates ?

I've been thinking about why SciFi and USA HD might be running slates. When the channels didn't launch at the time Scott predicted, the supposed reason was technical problems. I'm starting to wonder if that might not really be the case. If I had to guess, I'd say that the carriage agreements/contracts were finalized and E* has permission to broadcast. Therefore, they made room ("valuable" CONUS room on 110, to be exact) and removed revenue producing HDPPVs. Everything could have been set to launch, so the channels were correctly named, but the only thing missing was content. With more and more programming being delivered to E* by fiber rather than some sort of satellite feed, perhaps there's a fiber problem and they simply don't have access to the content. Seems plausible and would answer a lot of questions, right? And since no formal announcement of carriage was made, there's really no reason for E* to make a fool out of themselves by explaining a technical shortcoming.
I could be WAY off base here, but it makes more sense than anything else I've heard so far.
Didn't realize this. That blows that idea...SciFI HD and USA HD do not need to be fed via fiber to the uplink center. They are up on CBand satellite on Galaxy 14.
E* receives the VOOMs via fiber and transmit them to 129 and 61.5.
