SatelliteGuys.US DishNetwork Uplink Activity Discussion - Week Ending 12/15/2007

Charlie doesn't know that DirecTV
Shows him up as of lately.
They have a ton more HD,
Still he’s in a dream and Charlie doesn't know!

Oh Charlie doesn't know!
So Don't Tell Charlie!
Charlie doesn't know!
Charlie doesn't know!
So Don't Tell Charlie!

DirecTV keeps on adding,
But Dish is having trouble counting...

Because Charlie doesn't know!
Charlie doesn't know!
So don't tell Charlie!
Charlie doesn't know!

Don't tell Charlie!:)

For those that didn't catch on, to the tune of 'Scotty Doesn't Know' from Lustra

My take is that Charlie's perspective on Dish is, fortunately or unfortunately, quite different from the majority of posters in this thread and on this board.

He's got a huge company that he wants to keep making as much money as possible, for as long as possible, and everything he does is aimed at keeping as many subscribers as possible. He's not going to do anything that injects uncertainty into the situation or appears to show weakness. To tell people he's GOING to add SCIFI-HD and USA-HD but not have it available adds to uncertainty (why? what went wrong?); to say Dish is committed to add HD shows weakness (why? are they behind DTV? etc.). In addition, he knows that the VAST majority of his subscribers are, at best, just beginning to become aware of HD. Many couldn't care less. To THEM NBA-HD and NHL-HD ARE brand new! They couldn't tell you which HD channels D* had that E* didn't if their lives depended on it.

Charlie is speaking to the majority of his subscribers. He is also, by implication, saying that he doesn't care a whit about those, like us, who want cutting-edge HD. Frankly, you can't blame him.

We can ask for and hope for some more HD channels, maybe better quality. But in the end we have to speak with our dollar$.

"To tell people he's GOING to add SCIFI-HD and USA-HD "

That's the problem with a lot of the posts whining for more HD, Dish Network has NOT announced that they will add SCIFI-HD and USA-HD. We saw it in the uplink reports and that's it, we as customers are not even supposed to know about the uplink reports.

Dreaming, digi ? :)

I can do it, but my dish on a ground and I could move it every time. :p

No, think about it. I'm using the same mindset that Hemi used about the number of sat his 32 incher can pick up.

An 18 inch dish, with one standard DBS LNB, no motor, without a user moving it, could pick up 32 satellites at the same time. :D

You guys have missed it all along ;) 32 satellites in the same orbital location each running one transponder license. Like I said using the same mentality as the previous post that his slimline will pick up another satellite in a few months.

Must not be using the same mentality,I can't pick up what your trying to say. You must be well above us.Because No one had any clue to your sarcasm.

It is lost.. people always say "my AT9 can pick up X amount of satellites". Most of the time they don't even count the two satellites located at 101W. Actually the AT9 can pick up as many satellites as they want to pack up there. It is designed to pick up 5 orbital locations. I was just stating that my legacy one orbital position designed 18 inch dish in the shed from years ago could pick up 32 satellites. Using the same mentality of counting satellites instead of designed orbital locations.

And take note...I'm talking about designed orbital locations not counting the mad scientist tie wrapping LNBs off the side ;)

I get it. More satellites with less transponders in one orbital location. I.E. if you had 32 satellites at 110, each with one transponder. You would be seeing "more satellites", but not more transponder capacity.

And we won't even talk about the noobs constanly posting:

I just bought a Dish Network Satellite at Sears.
