SatelliteGuys.US DishNetwork Uplink Activity Discussion - Week Ending 01/05/2008

Some people won't be statisfied unless Dish comes out and says "We are going to add channel X on this date at this time." And if it comes on three minutes late, they will rip Charlie saying that he only cares about money, and wants to ruin their life.

True statement...

Well no way for us to back up your statement since No one has heard a date or a channel being launched. Frankly they should tell its customers if they have something in the works.Maybe they wouldn't keep losing customers. My guess they have nothing in the works to talk about.

When the satellites launch we'll see what E* decides to do with them.

Despite what some claim, there are things other than national HD channels that new satellites can be used for; e.g. HD and non-HD LILs, to replace ailing birds, business services, PPV, additional non-HD channels, transponders can be leased out, expand/update foreign service, etc. I'm sure there'll be a FEW new HD nationals launched, but the question is "what is Charlie's priority". Will new national HD be on the front burner, as it is with D*, or will it be on the back one? Fact is, there appears to be SOME capacity available right now but SciFi/USA-HD and others haven't been launched. Maybe technical problems, maybe Charlie simply doesn't want to pay what the providers are asking, which attitude most likely won't change regardless of the number of satellites in the sky.

Without information from Charlie we have no idea what E* will do. Even WITH announcements, etc., we can't be sure but at least we'd have SOMETHING to base a decision on.

What will people do should E* totally ignore new national HD at CES? Probably come up with reasons why that's a GOOD sign. :)

Does anybody here own their stock ? If so, were you supplied with any "plan" with the annual shareholder's report ?

Are you kidding?? With most of us paying at least $90 a month. We are all stockholders.:D

And our stock is dropping fast.

It's going to be raining and dreary here for the next 5 days, so I am going to go OT and answer you in fun. :)

#1: it would be better if we were paying Dish as a Coop. I previously had telephone service through one. Even though I have now moved and only use a cell phone, they mail me a check for $100 each year.

#2: with the Dish split, we can now check out which stock is dropping fast:
(a) the hardware side with the lawsuits
(b) or the media service side with the churn from the whiners :)

#3: we can whine about a few dollars, but if any of us were really that poor, we'd have downgraded to only SD Locals a long time ago :D

#4: and if most of us whiners were serious,
(a) we'd each own 1 share of Dish and raise a ruckus at the next shareholder's meeting and demand to be told the "plan"
(b) we'd be picketing outside A&E, HistoryChannel, TNT shouting "no more stretchovision"
(c) we'd be asking the candidates during the primaries television debates if they would ban "stretchovision"
LOL

How dare D* provide their HD subscribers only 9 national HD channels till the end on 2007, while E* had more than that.

How did D* allow E* to get away with that?

How dare E* not inform the universe about which and when new HD channels will be available. Who do they think they are???

I'm switching to D* today, unless E* gives me USA HD today. And I dont want none of that stretch-o-vision. I want 24x7 HD. E* needs to give me OAR, even if I'm the only E* sub that gets 24x7 OAR HD on USA...oh yeah and they might as well give me SciFi HD by today, too.

LOL. Since the sun is out here and it is about 65 degrees out, I will ask you a very short question that you can give me a very short answer if the sun does come out where you are. Lets say you have stock on the media side (as you call it). Would you be happy that your stock is not doing as good as it should (understatement)? Another short question. Would you want your company's stock to go up by simply announcing any plans? Knowing that hd is where your company makes most of its money.:)

DishNetwork owes subscribers NO explanation of what they are doing.

You signed up to accept the programming they deliver and that's it.

Save your energy for whining about something important.

^And that's why so many companies can get away with delivering sh!tty products!

LOL. I wonder is this what Dish is going to say in it's opening statement tomorrow at the CES.:D

Because that is exactly the way many of us subs feel right now.

They need to do something to stay competitive. If they don't announce that they're going to do something, they might as well do nothing.

Hey captain happy... lets not forget the fact this is a forum. What are we suppose to do... all worship lord charlie? It's a place for discussion.. and discussion soemtimes includes complaining.

Hey, they "announced plans" (see thread in this Forum).

So, is everyone happy who wanted "plans" ??

Probably not, because humans always go on to a new gripe...

Gripe about the gripes.

More HD is nice for some, but I still have to buy more equipment to get it from D* or E*. I sort of could not care less if there is more HD or not. In about a year the digital transition will be here or delayed. I think the plans for that should be brought forth.

We should know by now that announced plans may never come to fruition. Seems sometimes like the plans have no commitment. And they want us to commit. :)

Complaining is fine, but there is a point when it just becomes whining, and some have long gone past that point. As I've said before everyone needs to choose the service that is best for them and their family and move on, it's just TV for crying out loud!
