SatelliteGuys First Look Review - DISH Sling Adapter

.....On the channel grid, I see my OTA channels are there. It looks like I can watch OTA channels as I can even get the little "watch on web" button but when I click on it I go straight to the next lower channel that comes in via satellite. I really hoped this could be done as I get OTA channels from a neighboring DMA.....

I was wondering the same thing about over the air channels. Is there I way I can simply enter the OTA channel number, or what is the easiest way to get to it?

DISH Sling Adapter Changing TV1

A few minutes ago my DISH 722k was in use with BOTH the TV1 and TV2 already in use. I went to my Android Garminfone, assuming that this only controls TV2 and when I selected Channel 205 Fox News Channel it switched TV1 to Channel 205. It is possible that my oldest son also did something with the remote control for TV2 at that time. I don't recall now if it displayed content on the Android device, but TV1 definitely changed channels. Not a huge deal, but I am curious if others have also experienced this? Should I have selected a different choice on the Android?

That also brings up a related question, though. Is it possible that future updates will allow control of TV1, by design? Also, is there any chance that a future roll out of newer firmware could allow simultaneous viewing of the same channel by users near the Dish receiver AND remote viewers? If I recall correctly, I think that I have read that other stand alone Slingboxes do allow that.

The other thing that I might be interested in is the ability to have dual Dish Sling Adapters connected. One for TV1 and another for TV2 allowing dual simultaneous "slinging" of two different channels. With a wife and two sons in the house I am just thinking about managing potential channel conflicts.

I have also been considering buying another device, possibly a stand alone Slingbox, but it could be a different device for just over the air ATSC reception streaming. I have looked briefly at the Slingbox Solo and Pro HD. I also see that Hauppage has some computer based tuners that would allow streaming.

I had the same thing occur, while watching TV1 and messing with my Droid and the slingplayer it would change the channel on TV1 when i would call for a channel change on Droid, I was under the opinion that the Sling was tied to the TV2 only but that is not the case, maybe with some software changes this will go away.

Sling Adapter report and 722 USB options

Just hooked up my Dish sling adapter to my VIP 722 and thought I'd submit a brief report.

I already have an external drive in the USB so I connected a powered 4 port USB hub to my 722 and connected the HDD and the sling adaptor to the hub. Both work flawlessly. I can view content from the external drive via sling in my web browsers. So far I'm pleased. For $99 and no monthly fees it's a good deal.

As to other posts regarding TV1, the sling adapter uses this tuner and related DVR playback so if you change channels or watch a program via sling then that's what you see if you turn on a set connected to the auxiliary output which runs TV1. This isn't a big deal as far as I'm concerned since my primary HDMI system runs on TV2.

I just tried to enter the channel number like this and again I went to the next lower satellite channel. Oh well.
I enter it the same way I do locally and it works fine. Just always enter a full 5 digits. For example channel 4-2 would be 00402.

I just tried this and still it doesn't work. I still go to the next lower satellite channel.

I also took my laptop with me on a trip on Thursday and tried to access the DVR. It worked terribly. I was on the slowest TWC speed at home so I upgraded my service from Roadrunner basic to Roadrunner Turbo w/ Powerboost for $25.00 per month more. It's better but still not good. I am starting to have second thoughts.

Do a speedtest at home. You may need to reset your cable modem and/or complain to RR again to get the new speeds you're paying for.

I'm currently limited in my area to a published 384kbps upstream limit with TWC, and I actually get 360-370kbps consistently - never any higher. They do offer an upgrade to 512k Turbo Mode upgrade (can't believe they brag about that one), but I can't see paying an extra $10 a month for that incremental increase.

I ran a test similar to yours on my daughter's PC, and the browser showed around 300kbps downstream. The picture was watchable, even on full screen mode, and was actually better than what I expected with that low bitstream rate. Of course it's in the eye of the beholder - what's watchable to me, you may consider ghastly. I'm getting another ISP service at home on Monday, and I'm hoping for at 700-1000 kbps upstream on it. It will be interesting to see if the browser app optimizes to use that higher rate.

Did you possibly interchange TV1 and TV2 in your references. I don't think TV2 has an HDMI output capability - it's only on TV1, and the Sling Adapter is supposed to run on TV2.

What Is Next For The DISH Sling Adapter

What do you guys think the next thing will be for Dish Network Sling Adapter? Do you think that they might allow control over the TV1 output? Do you think they might allow a second Sling Adapter to be used simultaneously? One for TV1 and another for TV2? Could an update allow local viewing AND remote viewing at the same time? Also, in the meantime, has this inspired anyone here to look into adding another device for theTV1 output? For example, leave the Sling Adapter on TV2, but get Slingbox PRO-HD for TV1? What about other choices? Has anybody here looked at the Monsoon Vulkano devices?

I just did a speed test and came up with 8740 Kbps download speed and 570 Kbps upload. This is the 3rd fastest of 4 speed levels offered. The next step up is $35.00 more than what I am up to now and I am not about to pay that much.

It's probably here somewhere so sorry but what is the recommended upload speed from my home network?

HD streaming :Bandwidth of 3 mbps or higher (same for upstream bandwidth for viewing from outside home network.)

QVGA streaming: Bandwidth of 600kbps or higher ( same for upstream bandwidth for viewing from outside home network.)

Lesser than QVGA streaming (e.g. on mobile streaming) : Bandwidth of 150 kbps or higher (same for upstream bandwidth for viewing from outside home network.)

Guys, I was wondering what's best for my situation. I have a 722 with an old Sling AV hooked up to it. It works fine on my network, but obviously not on my iPhone or with remote viewing. I'm trying to decide if I should replace the AV with a new Sling Solo for $130 or a Sling Adapter for $99.

I like leaving my 722 in single mode. I don't care if my Solo takes TV1, no one else uses it besides me.

Any suggestions?

The Sling Adapter only switches to Dual when in use, it will switch back to Single when you are done with it. The biggest plus for me was the price, but you are tied to Dish.

I get good speeds, but it seems like the Homeplug on the 722 is the slowest as 15mbs and it doesn't really work for me. I am now setting up an 85mbs Homeplug at the Receiver, one at the router, and one at another TV to sling to. Wireless is working ok, but it seems the powerline solution provides more stable speeds.

I have my network and Slingbox Solo connected using older 85Mbps Netgear powerline adapters from the Slingbox to the router. The utility from Netgear shows my bandwidth being between 64 - 84 Mbps depending where in my house the receiving adapter is. I also run a wireless G network with strong signals. The utility in my PC's tray claims that I have a potential network speed of 54 Mbps using the wireless network. The only problem I have with the network is when my wife runs the garbage disposal. The interference it generates on my AC network kills my Ethernet speed. The disposal is on its own branch circuit and shares the conduit only with the wires to my dishwasher.

I have tried connecting a laptop to my SlingBox using my LAN with both PLC and WiFi. There really isn't any noticeable difference in the speed the Sling player at the receiving end reports. It is fairly consistent at 4Mbps. This is fine for watching video on a PC.

Someday if I end up with a 150' run of cat 5 Ethernet cable I may try connecting both the SlingBox and my laptop directly to the router and see what the impact is on speed.

T-Mobile Smartphones With Video Output For Dish Sling Adapter

Does anybody know how I can determine which T-Mobile smartphones have video output? I think it would be handy to feed video from a phone to the monitors in my wife's van when we are on trips. It might help keep the kids quieter.

DISH Sling Adapter

I just updated my Garminfone Android OS from 1.6 to 2.1 lat night. IT will be interesting to see today if it performs any better with the DISH Remote Access.

Has anybody here done an update on their mobile OS after adding this? Have you noticed any differences?

can you please tell me if this sling adapter that you hook it up with dish vip722dvr works with standalone sling media player and mobile ( any kind) ? I couldn't set mine up with any sling player. I can only watch it from inside of my dishnetwork account. I can't carry my laptop at my work and cellphone is the only thing allowed. I bought this sling adapter ($99.00) and sling player mobile for $29.99 to watch Football on my mobile with slingplayer, when i am not home. and I'm so frustrated that customer service at dish network pass me back and forth on phone to sling media customer service and dishnetwork. one says its not our product so we can't help another says its not our service. I'm about to return it. can somebody help me set up on mobile phone please ??? so that I can use it to my sling player mobile please.

i'd really appreciate anybody taking time to help me. atleast if anybody knows it works or not. if not is there a chance that it'd work on future or do i have to return it back to the dish network.
