So I noticed that last week the HD locals for Santa Barbara (Santa Maria/San Luis Obispo) were uplinked to Ciel2, probably for just planning/testing purposes. But now what? Has anyone seen this market on any plans or have an estimated timeframe for their actual arrival (spare the "soon" remarks!)? I'm excited, but I know it's a ways off. Any info would be great. Thanks.

As was pointed out in one of the uplink threads, technically those reports are just the channel tables. That a channel shows up on that list only means they have a channel placeholder in the system, and doesn't mean that they have the signal actually uplinked to the sat.

It's definitely a good sign that things could be coming, though.

I am Waiting impatiently also !

I too live in the Santa Barbara DMA(Lompoc) and have been awaiting very impatiently for are Locals to go HD,its exciting to see that they are working on,but would be nice if they would give us an estimate of when they would be up and ready.
Having a new HD TV I really cant handle watching SD programs too often,so I basically avoid local channels except for the news.
I am in same boat as you.I hope we see HD locals in the near future..

Good comment. I've seen them come and go away on those channel tables, and then other occasions, the channels go live with minimal notice in just a few days after appearing on the tables. And no real explanation either way.

I guess I'm used to hearing that uplinks mean nothing. I'm just wondering if anyone has seen this DMA on ANY lists or plans. I get it, sit and wait until then.

Santa Barbara and Santa Maria are basically in the center of Spot Beam 32 on Ciel 2. If they do go live with your locals, you should have an excellent signal.

Direct Tv has had them for over 2 years now  Christ i hope its soon i already missed out on the superbowl. Hope it is here by the academy awards!

Not a Viaable Solution !

Have any of you guys tried a simple OTA antenna ($20-$40 or see the youtube video on making your own from coat hangers) ?

This suggestion might work for some people in a Big DMA like Los Angeles,San Francisco where all your locals come out of one area. For us in the Santa Barbara DMA each network comes from a different Central Coast City for example CBS is out of Santa Maria,ABC out of Santa Barbara,NBC out of San Luis Obispo and Fox is only available thru cable or Satellitte. For most of us buying an antenae to receive maybe 1 channel wouldnt be worth the effort or Money, know matter what area you live in on The Central Coast (Santa Barbara DMA) HD signal would only reach so far.
Good suggestion ,just not workable in are area.

I can get ABC HD CBS HD and FOX (Not OTA HD here) but NBC is a no go in Santa Maria at least. The only way to pick up NBC and there affilite CW is if have a mounted antenna 2 storeis up.

I have an OTA antenna as well in Arroyo Grande. I can pick op KSBY @100%, KCOY/KKFX @ 75%, but no KEYT. The Super Bowl was nice this year on NBC, as I hate watching football on Fox in SD. Not sure who saw this, but check out the Retailer chat sticky in the forum. It says that HD locals are coming to Santa Barbara DMA in March!!!!! They might not make that date, but the fact that we're finally on the map is awesome.

god i hope its soon, as time goes by more and more of my favorite fox shows are going hd. Hopefully the will all so add CW even though it has local programming. If it does not come soon, Im about ready to "move" :p

Ok folks, rumors are swirling that next Wednesday is the day. Supposedly, Santa Barbara HD locals are coming online in the "next batch." This has been going on every Wednesday lately, so we'll see. Keep your fingers crossed.

I hope the Dish site is wrong

AS of this morning, the Dish website shows ABC CBS and NBC in HD but not
Fox.....If we are not getting Fox in HD, that means that after all this waiting all I gain is ABC....like others I can get CBS and NBC OTA. I'm hoping it's just a website error, but with all the other posts from DMAs that are not getting all 4 networks in HD, I am pessimistic.

The uplink report shows all 4 networks being added today, so I assume all 4 are up. I'm at work today, so I can't check until I get home. Anyone on the Central Coast that could check this out today?
