I moved my dish to a better location a few weeks ago and had to have a Tech come out to tweak it in. I have a completely clear view of the sky and still I am only able to get in the mid to high 50's on most of my TPs and some get low 60's. I am still having Pix problems on some channels esp NatGeo where it will go out completely. On some there is complete loss of signal. My question, as others have asked, are these numbers too low for an unobstructed view of the sky or exceptable? Are others having the same problem with NatGeo? I live in the 95255 area outside Sacramento in the hills. It does seem that the signals coming in on 110/119 are slightly better than before. Should I get the Tech back out to re-tweak the system because I did pay $40 for this service and I assume there is at least a 30 day guarantee. Thanks

If the service call was arranged through Dish then there should be a 90-day warranty on the work. (I'm not sure what you'll have if you went directly to a local installer with the original request.) Like dirkleearm said, you'll probably be better off with the second dish, altho' there are options on which ones would be best. Regardless of how you arranged the first service call, I think you'd better contact E*'s tech service dept and discuss your options. If there is additional equipment required then they should pick up the tab.

Good luck and please report back...

My parents in Athens, TX (75751) had the same problem...

They upgraded to HD from a Dish 500 pointed @ 110/119 to (as Dish's insistance) a Dish 1000 pointed @ 110/119/129.

Long story short...the first tech could only get 40's and 50's on 129, and that was sacrificing 110/119. He essentially told my parents that although there was clear line of sight, it was "the best it was going to get".

I pleaded with the tech and Dish tech support to just put up 2 Dishes. I even asked why they couldn't just point a second dish @ 61.5 (which is my current flawless setup). But both tech support and the installer kept saying that "there are channels on 129 that aren't on 61.5". However, from what I can tell, none of the channels exclusive to 129 are channels to which my parents subscribe.

Anyway, the installer eventually relocated the Dish1000 and got 70's for 129 and 90's for 119/110.

So what am I missing? Does my current setup with 61.5 somehow limit me? I have HD platinum?

Check the unofficial E* knowledge base for information of what's available on which satellites. AFAIK, the only real difference in the HD content between 61.5 and 129 is the HD locals; in theory the "national" HD channels are mirrored on both.

I also have (almost) flawless performance with 61.5 and that's shooting between trees, where I incredibly lucked-out. So far, so good (KOW!). I have no experience with 129 - I'm in its "blackout" area...

Yeah, I should have been more clear. Tony's channel chart is what I'm looking at. I don't find anything to which I'm subscribed on 129 that isn't mirrored on 61.5 and this includes HD LiLs. I understand dish's compliance issue and thus the need to have customers use only 1 dish, but if the customer actually requests it, what's the big deal?

The only single dish requirement is that each set of locals be available through the same dish, but even then the HD and SD sets can require their own dish.

129 also does not carry the Demo channel or CBS-NY. Other than that and HD locals the national HD content is the same.
