CARBONDALE -- The Saluki athletics department announced Thursday that Mediacom Communications will carry live television coverage of selected Southern Illinois University football and men's basketball games during the 2005-06 season.
Mediacom will air three SIU football games live this season: at Western Michigan (Sept. 17), at Western Kentucky (Oct. 29) and at Northern Iowa (Nov. 12). Coverage of Saluki basketball will include seven to 10 away games, with all being carried live. If a national network chooses to televise a selected game, the game will not air on Mediacom.
"We are exceedingly happy to team up with Mediacom because of their professionalism and reach," said Paul Kowalczyk, SIU's director of athletics. "We know they will do an outstanding job, and that our fans will be impressed with the quality of the broadcasts and the number of games."
All of Mediacom's coverage of SIU sports will be available to customers on the company's cable channel lineup on cable Channel 22. Additionally, Mediacom is offering special satellite dish buy-back offers for residents in their service areas that currently do not subscribe to the company's cable service. For more information, persons may call 1-800-875-0894.
"We're extremely excited about offering Saluki sports to our customers in Carbondale and throughout Southern Illinois," said Bill Copeland, Mediacom Regional Vice President of Operations. "Mediacom is a local company with strong ties to the community. There is no better way to express our localism than through coverage of our local sports teams."
According to Copeland, "Mediacom Communications is committed to ensuring that our coverage of SIU sports is of the highest quality possible. Sports coverage is exciting and viewers expect the best. That's what we're prepared to deliver."
