RVU

Hello,

Got a D installed yesterday. Reading threads on RVU I want to make sure I have this right.

Current install is HR54 and C61 with wireless bridge. In order to use RVU on Sameung is the only Item required a deca ii? Internet is wireless on the HR54. I would connect deca ii to the hr54 and the Ethernet would go into the TV?

Could I not use the Ethernet on the wireless bridge to connect to TV?

Connect the deca in line behind the Samsung tv and use the Ethernet port on tv

Wondering why you're getting the wireless bridge. The HR54 has built in WiFi to connect to your router (but use a wired connection for best experience) and the C61 is a coax only device, only the C41W's need the wireless bridge.

If you have the ethernet connected directly to the router and the Genie connected to the router it will likely work, but will not pass the install MOCA test. DirecTV requires installers to setup DECAs to allow the DirecTV RVU traffic to be on an isolated network from the home router, and their installation test verifies this. They are even supposed to use a DECA to connect the router to the DirecTV network rather than just connecting the Genie via Ethernet.

the newest deca can also use a USB cable for power, just dont plug it into the TV's USB port. takes a while to boot back up and find the genie when you turn the TV off lol. just a PSA.

I wonder if the next server/gateway will still have RVU and you would just need just straight WIFI and Ethernet no Deca needed?

I would guess that they will still want to use their own network for problem shooting based on past experience of how they do things to reduce support issues.

I hope that they continue to use Decas. It is such a cleaner signal transfer this way. Like many of you, I'm my own tech support person at home, and when I look into all of the activity going on inside my network, I am amazed at it all. Wow. The Thought of adding more audio video transmissions, especially with how big those files would be, makes me shiver.... I'm glad that Directv is using Deca for 4K. I just didn't like having to pay for it initially. But, I certainly understand AT&T's reasoning for making me.

Agreed - I tested this after my install for a couple days and quickly went back to having the AC Adapter. It took about 30 seconds to connect and load RVU after powering on the TV.

I also read it will not work connected to any old USB power supply - only those on a DirecTV receiver or RVU set.

Yes, in this example though the TV is powering the DECA for RVU, and my experience (Samsung RVU TV) was that the USB powered down when the TV did. This caused a long wait when powering on the TV for the DECA to power up and reconnect to the network, then to the Genie.

If a DECA is powered by a DirecTV receiver / client, such as when using it as a cinema connection kit, it will have always-on power.
