[VOOM] Rain Fade

I have a question, I have had VOOM now for about a month, maybe less..
and I am loving it to be honest. But I have encountered a problem with rain
fade. My signal is at 96, and the meter states that it should be 85 or
above for rain fade (if I remember correctly). So it isn't a signal issue,
I am curious about the larger dish....this will help won't it?!?!?!? By the
way, let me say that the rain we had a couple of weeks ago here in Phoenix
wasn't even that bad, but the picture cut out every few seconds, I couldn't
hardly watch TV that day.
So, here is my problem, whenever I call VOOM they tell me that I don't
qualify for the bigger dish. I asked the guy what I needed to qualify for,
I am telling them that I have no picture in a small drizzle. Then he tells
me that he will send a guy out to see if I qualify.....I tell him this is
why they didn't give me one the first time.....because I didn't qualify.
What do I have to say or do for my experience to qualify me for the bigger
dish?!?!?!?!?!?! I am experiencing problems and this doesn't seem to be an
issue to the VOOM reps that I speak to.
I hope it doesn't seem as if I am ranting over a little rain, but here in
Arizona every year we get monsoons, this brings heavy rains and thick dust
storms.....so if VOOM cuts out over a little drizzle, then I know what I am
in for when the 4-6 weeks of monsoons come in.
Can anyone help here? ;)

That is my question....what makes on e qualified or not?!?!?!? And again
not to complain.....but if someone is experiencing a problem you would
think the company would want to help. And as mentioned, it isn't my signal.
As far as purchasing from online, where are they available?

[VOOM] Re: Rain Fade

Hey, John, even with your signal showing 96 you can still get rain
fade. We found with our signal of 95-96 in clear weather we still get
rain fade in moderate to heavy rain. Just takes a good winter storm.
However, in light rain we're fine.

Have a service person (should you be able to get one) check the aiming
of your sat antenna. In addition, they should check the cable
connectors since rain was getting into our antenna to cable connection
and cutting down the signal to the point we were losing several OTAs.
We have a single cable run with a diplexer.

Still watching HDTV under mostly cloudy Seattle skies, Gill

P.S.: I don't know how VOOM decides who qualifies for the bigger
dish. In our case our "ZIP code" qualifies.

If your signal is at 96 that's very good. A bigger dish won't increase that
number too much in clear weather. Maybe to a 98 but the number could remain
higher in a rainstorm when the number drops to 85 instead of 80 with the
littler dish. No way to tell for sure but a heavy enough rain will kill a
pizza dish signal temporarily even if it's 24" instead of 18-20".

The bigger dish will help your signal strength out during rain events. I would call Voom and tell them that your experiencing a lot of rain fade over the past month and would like to get a bigger dish (24"). Let us know what happens.

I have a 30 inch dish and my signal strength duringa clear day is 99 and durning events it drops to 97, I believe. To be honest I really don't check anymore. however, durning a heavy downpour I do loose the signal for a few minutes.

I bought and installed a 31" and signal strength is 99. During=20=20
Hurricane Ivan my signal went to 90 but the wind buffiting (sp?) of 120 =
=20
mph gave me wind fade. I'm going to reinforce it for the next storm.

I did call and they said that they were going to send someone out to see
if I qualified. This is what got me so pissed off! I asked who needs to
qualify me when I am telling you of my issue with a small drizzle?!?!?! I
got nowhere with the guy, we kept going in circles. I finally hung up to be
honest.

The bigger dish will help your signal strength out during rain events. I
would call Voom and tell them that your experiencing a lot of rain fade
over the past month and would like to get a bigger dish (24"). Let us
know what happens.

I have a 30 inch dish and my signal strength duringa clear day is 99
and durning events it drops to 97, I believe. To be honest I really
don't check anymore. however, durning a heavy downpour I do loose the
signal for a few minutes.
