Questions about the new XiP Receivers?

They have specifically mentioned two 813's, and there is a switch/multiplex box that takes in 3 DPP satellite feeds and has two input/output jacks to feed the 813's.

I heard from dns this week that they plain to llaunch the xip the first of next year.
That sounds believable. I wouldn't be surprised if they launch the XIPs before they launch the infamous sling extender. Speaking of which, you haven't heard any news about it have you? If you didn't, I wouldn't be surprised.

So much for November launch of the Xip receiver. I am betting that first of the year will turn into Spring then Summer, then finally by Fall of 2012. Sounds like the fabled Sling Extender all over again.

Navy was speaking theoretically of a way the 813 could operate without exceeding available bandwidth on the coax.

If you read the sentence, it wasn't about bandwidth, it was about a feature of the XiP813.

Doing PiP requires doubling up on some hardware (or halving the number of clients served) and I don't see that in the tea leaves.

If you re-read the first post in this thread (from Scott), he pretty clearly says that Echostar was aiming to get the box over to DISH by November and then it was anyone's guess as to when DISH would finish their testing before releasing. I don't think people were tauting a November release.

At this point the Sling thing has just become a big joke. How many years ago was this announced?

Exactly. I believe it has been over two years and counting since they first taunted us with the idea of a sling extender or what ever it was called then. I still really want one ,but at this point I am not thinking we will EVER see it. The whole sling thing sounded so good in print ,but in my everyday life , it gets very little use. I really don't like watching tv on my computer, that is why I liked the google revue unit and the playon.com application.

dish just loves to tease us with something new and takes forever to come out with it :D lol :)

I have never really used the sling other than once earlier this year at a friend's house to try out how good it is and it had it's quirks. It might have it's use later on though, always good to have just in case.

DISH had the Sling Extender in their booth at CES in Vegas Jan 2011, I saw an actual unit. Was told it would be released in a couple of months, that's a LONG couple of months...

But the IDEA of the sling Extender was talked about in conjunction with the release of the new 922 . That is why I bought a 922 last year and then after 6 - 8 months I traded it back in for a 722k instead. I had the 722k before and it worked well compared to the 922. That is why I said I was determined not to fall for anymore of their "promised" technology. I will not buy into anymore of their vaporware ,till it is finally released, works well and I can actually GET IT in my hands .

Yup ... I initially read November release.

I then heard that they would debut it during the next CES which is currently scheduled for January 2012.

Hence, a spring 2012 release makes sense.

That's the funny part I had it in my hands January 2011, it looked like a real functional Sling Extender, not a mockup, a real device. The only thing I can figure is they've had a lot of problems with it in testing.
