PS3's Does ANYBODY still want one?

It's all on BD discs. 360 games are on DVD with no games ever intended for the HD-DVD add on. It will be quite a while before any games come out that stretch the 9gb DVD size barrier.

And even if it did, just throw in Disc 2. This is one of the arguments for BD that I never understood. 50 GB is great but so is two 25 GB discs. If a movie is that long to go beyond 25 GB, then I need a break to grab a beer and a piss anyways.

Thank you, Posty. I expect they'll fill them with previews, games you can unlock for a fee, video clips featuring Jiggles Galore, and stuff we haven't thought of. We seem to always use up any available space. Maybe this time it'll be a few years before they use it up. Hard to see in the next 5 years, but who knows.

Ha, beat you by six hours..... Scroll up a few posts..... Nice to see the gouging is over though...

I just got a call from a friend up north, he was at CC and told me as he walk in they were telling everyone they had a lot of PS3 in and ask everyone that came through the door if they wanted one , ha said no and so did a lot of other people he also said they were ask as you left if you were sure you didnt want one.

I ended up getting the 360 this Christmas. The local Best Buy was even throwing in 2 games for free (Need For Speed:Most Wanted and Ghost Recon). That in itself should say something about how bad they wanted to sell them.

I dont see that as a knock against the X360. MS, rather than cut the price, has had stores offer incentives like free games, gift cards, or rebates to get people to buy it. Your average consumer is more likely to buy something when they see the words free (insert whatever here). It comes down to perception. To the average joe schmoe, $399 + 2 free games sounds better in the mind than $299+$50/ each for 2 games. Personally, I think MS would have done better with a $50-$100 price cut and included a bundle of a 1st party greatest hits game and a 2 month live membership. I think MS wouldnt be able to keep them in stock if they priced the basic at $250 and the premium at $325 and included something like pgr3 or pd0 and a two month live card and a free arcade game.

I think it's because all the games out are either sports games or Mature ones(resistance, CoD3) and it won't change in the next weeks. The PS3 is a more 15+ kinda console with its current games library, I hope it changes soon and they make some good games for the kids.

That doesn't explain why they are not selling.....

People will realize within 1 year or less the PS3 will be superior game machine when the following games will come out which will have better graphics:

God of War 3
Killzone 3 (the new one)
GT5
MGS4 ( i can't wait for this one)
Socom 4!
Lair
Devil May Cry 4
Mercenaries 2: World in Flames (this one is going to be huge)
The Getaway
Formula One
Final Fantasy XIII

Then we can say to the wii..in your face.
Lets face the facts the PS3 is a superior system + better image quality.
Sure your son may like the wii now and say PS3 sucks but the problem now is..Wii makes games for kids that are young and not mature people 16+...
When your son ages he will see the diffence and one day he will say the Wii sucks dad i want the PS3.

I am sure we will see more of that.

But even many hardcore gamer are realizing, graphics arnt everything. People want innovative game play. Look how once semi obscure titles like DDR, Giutar hero (gitaroo man), Phoenix Wright, Trauma Center, and Katamari Damacy have become huge hits. Out of the titles you posted, 8 of them are sequals! To me, that says either a lack of originality, or a fear of it. Lets face it, Nintendo was getting to the point of going like Sega (at least home consol wise, not handheld wise) before the DS and the Wii. Both were supposed to be gimics that would fade away (virtual boy anyone?). But innovation has taken gaming by storm. Look at Japan. You can trade in a used DS lite for almost as much as a new one costs. They cant even keep fat DS's on the shelf. Same with the wii. Sure, some of it is kiddie stuff, but when I game, my 5 and 4 year old are usually sitting right next to me watching. I dont want them to see me playing Killzone or MGS4. But things like the Donkey Konga series or Wii sports we can enjoy together. There is quite a few people in the 21-34 demographic that have young children. If sony wants any of my money, they better realize that and make games I can share with my kids.

Finally found them at ToysRUs and Target last night. Both had plenty of the 60 Gig versions. This is the first time I have seen the PS3 in-store.

Once again, I resisted temptation to buy a BR player, er I mean game machine that would only play movies (for me atleast). :)

Ice - Are you much of a Sony fanboi? I would suggest you check out the game boards on the major game sites.

The Wii is bringing people back to gaming that either haven't ever played or haven't in years. Nintendo is going in a different direction than MS & Sony, and early on, the strategy is working. Most importantly, 3rd party developers are excited about the Wii and developing games for it.

Oh, BTW, most of the hardcore 20 something are going with a Wii360 combo right now. The Wii for innovation and the 360 for hardcore.

I fit that group.

We are now a 360/Wii household as well. No plans to get the ps3, but we didn't have a ps2 either so those other games never got their hooks into me.

I noticed today at target that all 12 systems were still on the shelf for sale and I also notice that the demo machine they had setup is no longer there.

I asked the associate what was up and he said "Kept locking up when people played the game", which made me look and the enclosue while not tight was not necessarily open either. Has the PS3 users reported any heat issues similar to the 360 problems? I have seen internal pics and heat dissaption was an obvious priority for Sony.

I have yet to actually touch a PS3 as no one I know has one, those of you that have one, are they hot?

My PS3 has about 100 hours on it. It does not get hot. You can put your hand on it and not get burnt. It is very quiet, my Dish622DVR makes more noise when it is not on. BD movies are great. The PS3 with the bluetooth remote makes for a great BD player.

Kiosks locking up is primarily due to folks pressing buttons and not waiting for the PS3 to act. I am not sure why but I tried to lock mine up by pressing alot of buttons and then I waited and did not keep pressing and I have not locked mine up yet so the Kiosks lockups are due to the salespeople not reseting the PS3.

Load times are not excessive. When someone says that the PS3 is taking too long I wonder what they are comparing it to? When I turn mine on I can get into any game currently on the hard drive or one that I have previously played in under 30 seconds. I think that some people just do not have any patience anymore.

I believe the PS3 is going to have some very long legs. I saving right now for March. This is going to be a hugh month for BD movies and PS3 games. I can see spending a couple of $100s right now in March.

I got my $100 rebate check from Microcenter yesterday. They have been offering it since August. Think of it as a soft price drop. Seeing as a paid full price for the HD DVD add-on I gave it right back to them. Regardless when I started playing XBL I knew I found what I was looking for since direct dial Doom. The online experience is the killer app for me. I didn't expect that before I bought it.
