Smashing financial success? Not so sure about that according to a report this week on investors being underwhelmed by the Wii U:

But Nintendo shares closed down 5.7 percent in Japan on Wednesday, hitting levels not seen since before the original Wii was launched to rave reviews in late 2006.

Pretty big difference from breaking encription and illegally hacking a companies server. One is civil, the other criminal. People are in jail for the second one.

You missed the point: in both cases it has to be proven (as long as you are in a more or less democratic country).
And we do remember how this ended in the Sony vs. Hotz case, don't we? The finding proof part...

Will be interesting to see what comes of that. We use our PS3 for little more than a BD player, would be interested in maybe tinkering with it. It's so loud though probably better off leaving it untouched and selling it.

This also comes off the heels of the news that the class action suit against Sony was thrown out because it's a free service and there were no monetary losses so people couldn't claim damages. I suppose they forgot that part of PSN IS a paid service, and that for a month, half the functionality (multiplayer) of numerous games was disabled, and any issues people had with possible identity fraud issues, but then again I'm not a judge (which is probably a good thing for the public at large.)

It might be worth pointing out for the sake of casual forum lurkers that just the box was hacked in this case (opening it up for individual users to pirate content), not the PSN network where users' IDs, credit card info was compromised.
