OK as the title says I'm having really bad pixelation problems again. I know its in the way my TV is setup. Heres my setup now... dvr510 to dvd recorder that up converts the video into component (not composite) then into surround sound to TV. Heres my question do u think upgrading to a HD DVR say the 942 would be a good way of getting rid of the pixelation. That way the video is already in component so it doesn't have to up convert. But there are some ketches one I don't have a HDTV yet (yea i know) and also the $250 price tag is a little hard to swallow as well. any ideas on how to fix this?

Stop passing it through so many sources would probably be the best way to fix it. I very much doubt that the DVD recorder is doing any upconverting (or doing a good job at it if you're seeing pixelization) from the DVR. It's likely just passing the signal through and not changing it at all. I'd just run the S-Video from the DVR into the receiver and have the video output from the the receiver's video out going to the DVD recorder. This is of course how I would do it since my receiver (Harman Kardon AVR-230) would allow it since it has a video output for each video input along with a complete set of monitor outputs.

Basic wiring plan (not knowing all components & what they are capable of just guessing here):

DVR to Video Input 1 via S-Video
DVD Recorder to Video Input 2 via component
Video Output 1 to DVD Recorder input via S-Video (I doubt you have component in)
Component Monitor out to TV this is presuming that you have a receiver that will convert from S-video to Component (not all receivers can)
If receiver can't convert S-Video to component then:
Component Monitor out to TV & S-Video monitor out to TV.

That would be my mine problem my receiver cant.

I have taken everything apart and rebuilt it outside the cabinet. Here are all of the pics and model numbers for everything I'm using. WITH THE PIC OF THE DVD JUST PRETEND I DIDN'T MESS-UP THE CABLES.

SAT: DVR-510
VCR: SHARP (VC-HP86) dont use much just there to copy school stuff
DVD: Panisonic (DMR-ES10)
RECIEVER: Sony (STR-DE597)
TV: JVC I'ART

So if you have any new ideas or any info that can help please HELP ME :river

WTH, you have no S-Video inputs but you do have component inputs? That's pretty messed up. Best I can think of doing is this then:

Run digital out from DVR to receiver
Run S-Video from DVR to DVD Recorder
Run S-Video from DVD recorder to monitor
Run digital out from DVD recorder to receiver
Run component out from DVD recorder to receiver
Use S-Video for watching programming on DVR and component for DVD recorder playback

Or you could go with option 2:

Run digital out from DVR to receiver
Run S-Video from DVR to monitor
Run composite out from DVR to receiver
Run Video Out 1 from receiver to DVD Recorder
Run Component out from DVD recorder to receiver
Run Digital out from DVD recorder to receiver
Run Component & Composite monitor out from receiver to monitor

Option 1 will have a lot of source switching involved but option 2 won't the only thing is you may lose a bit of recording quality although I doubt a lot but I could be incorrect. Frankly I would dump the receiver that you have as it seems pretty lacking to me. Man I'm glad I dumped my Sony, looking up the specs for yours just reminded me how lacking their receivers are unless you go with their overpriced ES lineup. Still have to sell the darn thing though, anybody want an STR-G3 with the infamous egg remote?

I'm going to see how things go for now, heres my question what receiver do u think would be the best for me. Has to be somewhat cheap but also has to do everything that you think is needed.

wow i lost both of u, wtf are u guys talking about. this is about how my TV looks like crap and how he is trying to help me. pixelation= looks like little squares on my TV (every TV is made of pixels) when you can see then thats when it becomes pixelation. And who cares about spelling, as long as u can figure it out.

Well the popular phrase (especially around home audio) is you get what you pay for. For manufacturers I would look at receivers from Harman Kardon, Denon and Onkyo. If you want specific models then these are a few of the ones I would suggest

Harman Kardon AVR-240
Harman Kardon AVR-340 (does S-Video to component conversion)
Onkyo TX-SR503
Onkyo TX-SR803
Denon AVR-486
Denon AVR-686

You might want to shop around for pricing but those receivers range in price from $300 to $600. Gave a wide range since a lot of folks mean different things when they say cheap. If you're looking to go below $300 I would hold off and save your money to spend at least that much.

Some times it's easier to avoid video problems by doing a direct connect from the providing source to the tv. Try doing just a direct connection to the tv and see how the pq looks on various channels, then try running it the way that it has been recommended and judge it again and see what you think.

I don't understand why you are running the component cables into the receiver's component 2-way switch when you aren't even using it. Run the component cables straight out of the DVD-R to the TV.

There is no point in coverting dish sd to component, the video itself is interlaced from the source. Are you happy with the quality when you connect the 510 directly to the tv?

Does your tv support progressive scan? Maybe you are converting to progressive only to have the tv convert it back to interlaced. (I've never had an sd tv with compenent so I'm not sure how they work)

personaly im never happy w/ the picture of a SDTV but w/ money as tight as it is right now i cant buy a hdtv.
No my tv doesnt support progressive scan i know bad for me. Well if it does i havent found the setting for it yet. Component gives me the best lookin picture. when the cable got strait to the tv, the colors are dull.

Well, the 942 would look better on your tv when tuned to an HD channel but I doubt it would look any better on the regular dish channels.

I honestly think dish sd looks pixelated all the time, if it looks pixelated when using s-video then upconverting to component won't help. As far as dull colors your tv might have separate picture controls depending on the input, you might try adjusting the color level when you have the s-video input selected.

I recommend you hold off a HD dvr until you have an HD set. They cost a lot and the 942 has been discontinued because of the pending mpeg4 change and HD recordings take 8 to 10 times as much hard disk space as SD channels. Unless you can get a special deal a 942 cost as much as many entry level hd sets.
