PBS World is in DVB-S/MPEG-2 on 125W at 12060 MHz until next Saturday. After that, it is only available in DVB-S2/MPEG-4 at 12180 MHz.

World is otherwise unavailable on FTA as far as I know.

Dee_Ann you should delete some of your PMs. No one can send you new ones til you do ;)

Well it tooked some time in the roof, finally I bring 12060 fine, a plus I was able to pull Montana PBS but so far nothing on 12180

But I can't find anything now and I can't figure out from the 8+ pages of tech talk what's going on.
post 1 has the info for the time being ;)
Doing a scan tonight and noticed the main PBS mux (12180 V 30000) is now duplicated on 12060 V 30000

same channels
HD feed
SD feed
Create
V-Me
PBS World

Anyway, I see you guys saying stuff is hopping all around to different frequencies but at least it's all staying on the same satellite. I need to know a, solid non S2 channel to aim at, from there I'll just deal with it.
12060 V 30000
12163 H 4444
12169 H 4444

And I guess the other question is, does PBS World show up on any other satellite? KU or C, I don't care, as long as it's solid and stays put for a day or two.
nope. Just AMC21

as noted 12180 V 30000 they are tweaking right now so use the 12060 TP

I wonder if they will make 12140V into S2 in the future now that they duplicated those channels onto 12180V.

It is a pity that World and Vme did not go HD.

I've got to re-up my membership, it ran out and my privileges were reduced along with mailbox size. I can't do anything about it until Monday.. :o

I get the following channels listed below when I scan 12180V 30000SR, but DL Service doesn't display after scanning in either on the AZBox ME or the S10. Anyone else experiencing the same thing?

HD01
HD02
HD03
SD01
SD02 Create
SD03 VME
SD04 World
DL Service (Scans in but doesn't appear in the channel or Radio listing.) :(

Thank you guys, with your help I found them but i found them on 12180 V 30000

My temporary dish seems to be holding up well for now, I've got 100% SQ/PQ on World.
It says h.264/AVC HiP@3.0

I have no idea what HiP@3.0 means, I've never seen it before but it seems to be working so I won't worry about it for now.
It also seems to me that the 2.5mbps seems like an awful low number. :(

I spent a few hours straightening up that crooked post (NOT fun) so tomorrow I can ditch the temp dish and go back to the permanent dish.
I'm so glad to have my PBS back!

Thanks again guys! :)

2.5 Mbps H.264 = 5 Mbps MPEG-2 = just about DVD quality as far as SD video is concerned.

I did exact frame screenshot comparisons between the old 1080i MPEG-2 feeds and the new 1080i H.264 feeds. 3 flagship programs selected: Nature, NOVA, Inside Nature's Giants.

PBS1 : Screenshot Comparison
PBS2 : Screenshot Comparison
PBS3 : Screenshot Comparison
PBS4 : Screenshot Comparison
PBS5 : Screenshot Comparison

You can see that the macroblocking is gone now.

Yes, I was able to watch & record my show yesterday on World and it looked pretty bad. I have my screen set to 1080p and World of course is SD 720x480 so it looked really blotchy when scaled up to fill my screen. :(
They need to get with the program, it's almost 2013. I just don't understand why they don't bring those channels up to the times like the rest. I can't wait until SD dies and goes away.
I wish we would get some of that crazy super HD like they have in Japan.

Right..... Dream on.. That'll happen in the US either when pigs fly or 50 years after I die.... :(

Oh well... :)

Japan does not have UHDTV.

World is in SD because PBS is catering to poors who receive their programming via bandwidth-starved ATSC antenna. Unlike this satellite which now has 67 Mbps of bandwidth on a single transponder, PBS terrestrial affiliates only have 19 Mbps of bandwidth to work with.

Unless you can find a way to distribute PBS and all of its subchannels in 19 Mbps of bandwidth which doesn't require replacing everyone's equipment that can only handle MPEG2 (again: poors are responsible for holding us back and keeping us on MPEG2 for terrestrial broadcasts instead of adopting H.264 for over the air) then that channel is going to be in SD for a long time.

I have no idea what HiP@3.0 means, I've never seen it before but it seems to be working so I won't worry about it for now.
Core AVC under MyTheatre descibes it as Profile: High Level: 3.0 if that makes anymore sense
