The number of people with access to a paid live TV channel bundle continued to decline in 2024. By the end of 2023, 75.3 million homes had traditional pay TV or vMVPD subscriptions. By the end of 2024, there were 69.8 million, 5.4 million fewer. The rate of decline was only slightly higher in 2023 than in 2024: 7.7% versus 7.2%.

The bottom line
  • The number of cable, satellite, and telco TV subscriptions fell by 6.3 million to 50.9 million in 2024.
  • The 11% decline was slightly lower than the 12.9% loss in 2023.
  • vMVPDs made up some losses, adding about 1 million subscriptions to 18.9 million.
  • Overall, the number of people with a paid live TV channel bundle subscription fell 7% to 69.8 million.

Sometime in 2025, guessing by the 3rd Quarter, there will be more households without paid live TV, than those with it.

Also looks like YouTube TV will overtake DirecTV, become the number 3 Provider in 2025.

Pretty incredible, a Live TV Service since 2017, 8 years, surpassing a company that has been a provider for 31 years.

YTTV became the #4 Live TV Service in 2024, Dish Network, even with Sling's subscriber numbers added in, dropped to #5, a company providing service for 29 years.
