'One-ring' cell phone scam

In this case, the scammers let the phone ring once — just enough to cause a missed call message to pop up on victims' phones — and then hang up. Victims who call the number back are connected to a paid "adult entertainment service" located overseas.

Yup. We've gotten multiple one ring calls from the area codes listed in the article. The local NBC news had this on the air about a week ago.

Who calls back random numbers that show up on their phone? If someone wants me to call them back, they better leave a message.

I was once left a message on my answering machine back when 976-numbers were new.
This variation isn't new.
People who call back one-rings, are likely the same ones who can't resist a random URL.
