I'm still going with the weak signal theory simply because I know KLKN's signal does not reach the Grand Island-Hastings area well, and Dish uplinks from Hastings. In that area, or really anywhere beyond about 30 miles from the tower, KLKN is very difficult to get with a consumer indoor antenna, so in less than perfect conditions even a high-end VHF antenna mounted on a mast and aimed straight at the tower still isn't going to be breakup-free. Apparently they're also using KOLN's signal rather than KGIN's signal if KOLN was dropping out this morning too.
Reception was weird this morning to begin with. In Omaha, NE I was pulling in VHF radio signals from western Oklahoma, southwestern Kansas, and central South Dakota around 8 AM yet couldn't even get Lincoln's VHF PBS station (ch. 12) at a distance of only ~30-35 miles away.
