OLN Dropped by Dish over Programming Disputes

Perhaps he simply prefers objective reasoning vs. irrational cult-like devotion.

Thank you, couldn't said it better myself. Obviously, the "irrational cult-like devotion" just keeps going on & on & on...

Dishies - just keep "drinking the Koolaid, drinking the Koolaid, drinking the Koolaid"... :D :D

It has nothing to do with drinking the Koolaid, it's about countering all the moronic claims that E* should just bend over everytime a program provider decides they want more money.

[whine][whine] It's only ONE channel.... it won't cost them THAT much...they spent money on the NHL and now they need someone to pay for it. [/whine][/whine]

It's OLN, give me a break. Leave 'em off unless they buckle completely. You really have to be a short-sighted simpleton to think that this OLN approach is acceptable.

A. I switched to Comcast at home, but still have Dish at work (with more receivers than anybody here, I'm sure). I have been a Dish sub since 1998.
B. I'm not a big time liberal. (I just don't like having a moronic puppet, who is controlled by a group of scoundrels and thieves, as the leader of my country). And, even if I was, WTF does it have to do with the discussion at hand?
C. Because I look at things objectively, use logic and a bit of humor in my arguments, and don't use an upper case "H" in the word "him" when referring to Charlie, does not mean I am bashing Dish or its subs. (I will however point out stupid comments, unproven facts, and rabid, cult-like devotion to a utility compnay.)

Just because one does not show 100% devotion and obedience to an object, person, politcal figure, company, or whatever, does not mean that person is against them. Those who think it is are simpletons. (Or, perhaps the current Presidential administration.)

Yup. It's starting to look like DBSTalk in here. I almost wish that forum didn't start sucking so much. All the rabid Dish zombies must have migrated over here.

Should I report your post to the admins? Your crass remarks are not appreciated. Did I say something wrong in my earlier post regarding yours?
You used unsubstantiated numbers. That could be considered wrong by some. I merely pointed out that you were using unsubstantiated numbers.

If you'd like to see my reasoning, I'll post later but your childish remarks need to stay in your home and in your head. If you have better things to say, say it over a PM. Last I checked, personal bashing is not the decorum here.
Why PM? Just post the reasoning behind your numbers, as you should have in the first place. If you had done that originally, I wouldn't have made the comment that they were unsubstantiated. There was no personal bashing. The expression "pulling xxx out of your ass" is a normal expression used in most parts of this country, other than inside church, perhaps.

Plus, you're NOT EVEN A E* sub. Why are you continuing to put up sarcastic remarks only related to E*?
I'm not? Gee. I wonder what those 9 receivers with the Dish logo at work are for?

And, I put up sarcastic remarks related to ALL things and people that deserve them.

I have Oklahoma Gas & Electric at work. That doesn't make me an OG&E sub.

DEMs want competition, GOPs want monopolies.

Dems want to regulate business to the point that only large corporations can afford to comply with all the bullshi! laws they pass. Just ask Germany how there unemployment rate is doing w/ the socialist government they have.

Please dial back the personal comments folks. This thread is about OLN and Dish Network. It is not about people's mother's footware nor about the current make-up of congress.

Thanks.

Count me in with the Dish subs who applaud E*'s fight to hold down costs and reject price increases like this OLN manuever.

While I couldn't care less about OLN's disappearance, which I wouldn't have even noticed had I not read about it here (as this channel is not on any of my favorites lists), I am concerned about the tactics being employed here. I certainly hope that E* will have competitive access to all channels and that other providers will not leverage prices to gain competitive advantages. Else we could have D* or E* or Comcast going out to buy channels like Sci-Fi, Discovery, etc., to force price increases on their competitors.

Add my name to the list of people who are glad Dish fights these fights. And without getting personal, can I laugh at those who really want to pay more for content they don't want, just because Dish says they shouldn't have to?

12 pages (as of now) about a channel so many of you claim you don't care about...ironic...

The subject is pretty self-explanatory so if you didn't care, why are you all reading/posting with such passion for such a worthless channel?

OLN is a good network for certain people, i've seen plenty of "I'm upgrading to AT180 to get OLN" posts to see that.

OLN is wrong to ask for their contract not be honored, E* is wrong for pulling the whole channel, but pulling it will get comcast's attention, so I can't knock the decision. If it was still on, sans hockey, no progress would be getting made, so everyone just shut up and let them work this out.

To suggest that your bill will go up $1 simply for OLN is absurd. Your bill will go up in february PROBABLY 2-3 dollars for OLN, NFL, CSTV, ESPN-U, any channels they add from now to then, and also get a little extra change rolling in to pay for the MPEG-4 switch. End of story, there's really nothing else for anyone to say here which is why it's spiraled into a personal attack thread.

Not really. Maybe there are a lot of people who feel like expressing that they feel strongly about E* not paying more for channels that they consider to have very little value. Thus the strong degree of interest is more an indication of supporting E* in this than any real interest in retaining OLN.

I've been an E* sub for 7 years, or well longer than how long OLN has been included in the Dish lineup. If the grand total amount of time that OLN has been on my TV is as high as 10 minutes, it would only be because I was a few seconds slow in changing channels and those seconds added up over time.

I support Dish offering a lineup that retains a lot of subs, thus generating revenue for further improvements, thus it is important for them to offer a lot of channels. But I'm not supportive of Dish being held hostage for a channel that picks up some NHL games after that programming couldn't sell to the networks or even a top tier cable channel. What's next, some channel that airs Seinfeld reruns is going to want more money? NHL in SD is premium, price-raising content??? Puh-lease!

I applaud E* telling them to stick it. See how the owners like losing the revenue from an 11M subscriber base. I'd feel the same if it was a channel I watched more.

I been a Dish sub since '97.Where I am located right now I get a Comcast sports channel out of Phila on Blue Ridge cable, for free, which also has OLN w/o hockey. It was on the first nite, then no more.

CP, I disagree with you on that. In my opinion he is. It is the game he plays over and over again. When Dish was dropping the Viacom programming, he stated that no one was watching Noggin and it wouldn't be missed. Till he got a bunch of mothers complaining that their toodlers were watching the channel and would go elsewhere. Sometimes he's just missing the point. The game he plays is not professional, not constructive. Next time he drops a channel, because the commentators will always wear blue suits and he doesn't like that. As I understand, there was no rate increase needed on the AT120 to make this happen. So what's the whole ordeal?

Marcel,

Dish didn't remove the Viacom channels, Viacom insisted the channels be removed because their retransmission carriage contract had expired with Dish Network. That is NOT censorship.

While you could use that term with the OLN dispute, it is not really. Dish is playing Chicken with Comcast. Comcast needs Dish subscribers more than Dish needs them, judging by the Anemic rateings OLN has it will not result in much if any churn.

Dish will likely win this fight in the long term, in the meantime purchase Center Ice or watch your local RSN's games, I watch my local teams on MSG Rangers, Devils, and Sabres. I also subscribe to Center Ice.

Tripod,

Please tell me now to get Cable for "FREE" without stealing it. Nobody gets any satellite or cable delivered for "FREE". Those channels are included in the programing package that you pay for.

There are NO "FREE" channels in any MSO's programing packages, if they were then you wouldn't be required to purchase ANY programing package.

Amazingly, your observation coincides with your own ramp-up in posting. Don't confuse antagonizing a subscriber base, and their subsequent reaction, with being a "zombie."

AFAIC, a bad situation either way here, Comcast, IMHO, in the wrong here. I can't blame Charlie for doing what he did, either.

This just smells like the pre-Super Bowl Viacom fun to me, albeit with MUCH smaller numbers at play.
