Official - I have a Hopper 3 Thread!

4k on netflex is based on your subsrcription with them. If you got the free netflix from dish it the basic. Might need to upgrade.

4k is included in my Netflix subscription, but I am still not getting it on the Hopper. Is anyone getting Netflix 4k via their Hopper? I called Dish and the representative had no idea what I was talking about.
This maybe a rhetorical question is your tv uhd? Also what is your internet speed? You atleast 25 mbps. Try this search 4k or uhd on the search i found content that way.

Yes, my tv is UHD. I get Netflix UHD from my Roku 4 and from the Netflix app on my tv . My internet speed is 60 mbps. I can watch in UHD on another device, but if it available from Dish, I should be able to get it. from them too.

So im guess the content i pulled was not 4k.

Until Dish gets the HDCP 2.2 implemented as they did with U307 for one day, you won't get 4K Netflix. Hopefully a new upgrade will come out soon and get it working right.

I added three OTA channels but they are not stable enough to watch. Wanted to remove them from channel guide but cannot! Anyone else have this problem or a solution?

Tried rescanning and deleting all channels but they are still there!

Anyone having issues with Joeys just going dark. I have had this happen 3-4 times over the past 2 weeks on 2 different joeys. Only way to fix is to reset the Joey. I can go through the menu and get it to reset, but no picture and no sound.

Anyone having an issue watching content on an external hard drive? I try to start up a program, and a get a box that the drive is spinning up. I click ok, and nothing happens... If I wait 30 seconds and try again, it works, but it is really annoying and doesn't pass the spouse test ("why doesn't it work the first time?!?!").

Any way to make this more user friendly? I don't mind waiting for the drive to spin up, but I should have to drill down 4 steps again a second time to start up a program (Press DVR button, click on external hard drive, move highlighter down to content, press enter, highlight episode I want, press enter, press start over.... )

I have a 2TB EHD that is 2/3 full. The drive has to spin up and populate the icons and whatever else. A little patience is all that it takes.

Same here... It populates the icons quickly, but it won't fire up a program on the first attempt. I just get a black screen that never goes away. I repeat the process a second time about a minute later and it works fine..... My old 722/622 combos never had the issue although they did take a long time building the list of recorded content first. The difference is that the spouse gets frustrated trying to pull up some recorded content for visiting nephews.... Just trying to see if there is a way for E* to make it correct itself instead of forcing you to drill down several levels twice.

Not sure why but every morning I turn on my Hopper and it says external hardrive 2 found like it would if it resets... Any reason as to why it has done this the last few nights... Everything works fine just curious

I see the spin up message, too. On my 722k, I could not even choose a recording to watch until the drive was ready. Can't the Hopper 3 just wait until the drive is ready before allowing you to choose a recording to watch?

Probably that pops up after a reboot. Have seen it a few times myself.... A minor nuisance to make the dialog box go away....

I have the hopper 3 and 1 joey 2....it was installed yesterday. Hopper 3 working fine but joey 2 not so much.

During the install the tech found that the node was mounted on the roof with the satellite (exposed to the elements). He was very surprised when he found this. But he left it the way it was. I explained to him that I have had several hoppers and other receivers (about 6 different 922) die on me over the years.

My hopper with sling and super joey was replaced yesterday with the hopper 3 and joey2.

When i had upgraded from the joey to super joey a couple years ago the tech had to run a new coax cable to the super joey get it to work at all. The super joey would often cut in and out very often, this was mostly fixed once I connected it to Ethernet via power-line adapter.

The joey 2 I have now seemed to be working fine until the tech left. Then it was plagued with problems soon their after. Freq reboots, freq freezes....ect.
I tried multiple resets on both hopper 3 and joey 2, along with resetting all my internet devices.

I found when i remove my Ethernet (via power-line adapter) from the joey2 it doesn't work at all. The joey2 can not find the hopper3, it is a un-linked state shows no moca connection.

unpluged my joey 2 from the Ethernet via power-line and called dish support. They could not get it to connect to the hopper3.

A tech is set to come out this afternoon.

So my questions are....... are all these problems i have been having over the years caused by the node being on my roof exposed to the elements? If not what is?
Any advice is greatly appreciated!

After having Hopper 3 for a month I have seen Hopper 3 updates but still have a couple issues that I haven't read that others have. I might mention that the audio issue below never happened with my previous Hopper, just with the new Hopper 3. The setup remains the same so all is equal. The issue is with Hopper 3, not my other equipment.

I've noticed an occasional audio drop out when using my digital receiver, not via sound within my Samsung UHD. I do used HQ HDMI cables. It's only a brief drop out missing a word or two but still a drop out. Also while using the digital receiver for audio & with Picture & Picture on there's a loud crackle when flipping PnP back & forth. This doesn't happen when using just the TV's audio, just via my receiver. Once again, this audio issue never happened with my previous Hopper, just with the new Hopper 3.

The other issue also deals with Picture & Picture as well. Occasionally, the smaller monitor picture in the corner will burst into digital noise. If I wait long enough both PnP will go into digital noise & the receiver will need to be re-set. I've learned that when this happens & the main picture & still clear I can correct the issue by turning the Hopper 3 off & on.

Anyone else have these issues? I'm still excited with Hopper 3's potential. These issues will be ironed out in time.

When I installed my Hopper 3 and Joey 4K last month I installed the dual hybrid hub about 2' from my Hopper 3 not outside. I also ran new RG-6 to my Joey 4K.
I would ask the Technician if the hub can be installed inside the house close to the Hopper and Joey. I would also ask if he/she could install new coax from the
Hopper to the Joey.

As for your question I have seen that anytime your install electronics outside and the connections and/or the equipment is not properly sealed from the weather
you will have problems. From my Eastern Arc 1000.2/LNBF Hybrid I have 4' of coax. At the LNBF I have taped the connectors with quality electrical tape. Where
my coax coming into the hose from the dish and the coax from the LNBF I have also sealed with quality electrical tape. When I seal a coax connection outside
on any antennas I use ample amounts of tape. I probably use too much tape but I know it is sealed and I will not have any connector problems on any of my
many antennas at my house. I use 3M Super 33+ electrical tape and no the cheap stuff.

Good luck.

So I have a question. Since none of my timers would restore from the old remote. How do I create a search timer. So I search for a program and nothing is found how do I create a timer that will record the program once it comes back on?

I have been an early adopter of Dish Receivers for many years, the worst, IMO, being the 912. I feel the Hopper series, has been a great success. There have been a few issues here and there , but Dish always seems to be pushing the technology and trying to bring us some new and exiting receivers. There are somethings with the H3 that need to be worked on, but I'm really tired of the amount negativity here. This is a support forum that we joined to notify each other of the problems and good things about Dish. I'd really like to get back to having a positive experience here.

It's great to bring up problems and make suggestions. A lot of us on this forum have benefited from DIRTs presence here. If I were a DIRT Team member, I'd probably start getting a little tired of the abuse by some of the members here. Let's try to be a little helpful. When we find a problem, bring it up, I'm sure that DISH appreciates the information that they get. There are a lot of really smart, experienced people here that make a lot of great suggestions. If you're frustrated, let us know, let DISH know, but don't be nasty and hateful. Be constructive, help solve the problem.

Maybe I'm one of the few, but DISH has always treated me fair and with respect. How many companies can you call today for an installation of any type of equipment and have someone at your house tomorrow installing it free of charge. Some of the agents you speak to on the phone, don't have every answer and don't get it right every time, but most of us here have been with DISH for a long time and are probably more technically aware then most sales or support staff. When was the last time you went to Best Buy and actually found someone that could answer a really technical question? Didn't mean to offend anyone working a Best Buy.

Let's just get back to helping each other and being a little more positive. If you're hater of DISH, go somewhere else. I don't want to come to these forums and read post after post of people ragging all the time. I come here for help and to help others when I can.

There, I'm done. Now all you haters out there can blast me.

I haven't seen that much negativity, just statements about what is glitching, as well as some constructive criticism for some design choices they made. As for the customer service, Dish is pretty good when it comes to technical challenges.... We've all heard some horror stories about billing issues, so they can improve things there, and I wish they would add a few channels that I miss (ones like SNY that they dropped that really hurt so I can watch my Mets games again), but after dealing with AT&T Local (not the wireless division) for the last 2 months to get some business lines deleted (we moved to a voice over IP system and don't need most of them anymore) I can tell you all that it could be a LOT worse.

No need to blast... this is a support group! ;)

With respect, to point out issues with the Hopper 3 isn't necessarily negative or trashing; they are facts that hopefully will be resolved. That is support. I like the Hopper 3 & appreciate what Dish is trying to do but they cannot correct issues they are unaware of. Maybe my H3 is having an issue no one else is having so maybe it's not a H3 issue at all but something else. I consider that is supporting each other. It's info sharing. If two are having the same problem it is the H3 that has the issue.

My H3 had an issue last night so I called Dish & they took note as they haven't recorded a similar issue. I like using P&P; news on the big screen & ball game on the little screen in the corner. But, occasionally the smaller screen goes in color noise. This will not stop until I turn the H3 completely off & even then the color noise in the small screen may return or be okay. Last night when this happened & tried reversing the P&P. The result was a disaster. The main screen froze in a snapshot. I changed channels & got sound of the new channel but still locked on the same frozen snapshot. Tried turning H3 off/on, no change. Tried the Guide to change channels but the same result; everything changed except the snapshot image. Finally pushed the red reset on the receiver which fixed the issue.

Now, is that negative? Is it out of line to point out? Should this not be reported? Do you consider my questions "hate" & "blasting" you? We can't help each other unless we communicate which I believe most are. There will always be commits made that will ring with trash talk. Just need to filter it out because most of it is just that, talk.

Dish will eventually get all in order. We just need to be patient! HTH :)
