I just switched from Dish to Direct TV. How can I record off-air onto my HR-24 DVR and also have the off-air program info show-up in my guide the way that Dish handled off-air programing?

Be prepared, some AM21/HR24 users tend to have several blanks per week. There is a bug with the HR24 and OTA recording, but live works fine.

When recording 20 hours or so a week, I was getting at least 3 blanks, so I've since moved it to the bedroom and use the HR22 and AM21 to record OTA.

Thanks for the fast reply. I was afraid that it would involve another purchase that I was not aware ok. ex The extra $100 for the 3rd tv HD box that I wasn't told about. Also I asked the Direct TV csr if I could use my Western 1tb hard drive for expanded storage and was told YES BUT wasn't told that I have to somehow convert my usb plug to Direct TV's SATA plug. Any ideas????

Is the WD HDD in a prefab'd WD box or in an aftermarket enclosure? If it's aftermarket, you can just get an eSATA enclosure, if its not, I dunno.

I haven't had one blank with mine...

I know, and Jimbo will say it's perfect next. It's more reported at the "other" site, even confirmed by RAD who's a beta tester.

The guy justs need to know he might drop $40 on something that has a 50/50 chance of working.

If it's prefab'd, I've never taken those apart (I usually use the prefab'd WD DVR Expanders). You could sell it on eBay and pickup a 1TB eSata WD.

I don't have too..... plenty of people are speaking out that they are not having any issues.
It appears to be a sparadic issue and QUITE possibly something that they have a new fix for .... remember we were all suppose to get an update the other night ?

Anyone know for sure what it was for or if it came.

I guess I could be like you and say to people that YES you will definately HAVE trouble with the recordings, but I would not do that, as the majority has had NO PROBLEMS.

If a piece of molding should come off your car, do we have a RECALL due to an isolated issue ......

I wonder why it is YOU have so much trouble with your set up when most others don't ?

CE testers are reporting that the newest SW for the HR24 has NOT fixed the bug, I know because I've asked a few.

Time to proofread Jimbo, I said "50/50" and "some users", not "definitely. Instead of always replying "no problems here", you could report the truth, which is some users are having OTA issues to potential AM21 users, so they at least know.

I'm tracking the issue, and who's having it, not sticking my head in the sand like you ("can't see it from my house"). BTW, about my setup, lets see. Weeks HR24 is installed with AM21, blank recordings. Week HR24 is gone and HR22 is back on duty, NO blank recordings. Others have reported the bug, when doing certain things, while the box is on an OTA channel, it causes a tuner freeze. It can be fixed by changing channels, but that does not help you when you are not at home.

It's our duty to let new folks know that, we cannot take the "I'm not having any problems so there are no problems" approach, it won't help him if he wastes $40. I'm not telling him not to buy, but to be prepared.

And BTW, it is a confirmed problem by CE and trusted Beta Testers, so I don't care what you think, and I'll continue to warn folks, because I'm not going to let them go in unaware of a potential problem.

I've been around here long enough, I do my research.

BTW, the molding comment was horrible. This would be more like "this model year toyota engine is know to sludge", and YES, I'd like to be told before buying the car...

Another reason it's only me here, is let's face it, there aint many us here. You are about as bad as another unnamed party who, who every time someone says an HR 21/22 is slow, they say "mine works just fine"

So, do you do any CE testing ?

I DO EVERY WEEK since it started.

You speak in variables, "some do, 50/50" when people see Some do and 50/50 in makes people leary of trying any thing.

WHY would I tell someone that I am having issues if I am NOT ?

I speak from experience, not what some others have said that they may have heard.

My experience has been no issues with recording ota from an AM21 and HR24-500.

Elway, sounds to me like you have a personal issue with me speaking my mind about things ....

IF I am having trouble, I look to see what might be the issue and fix it, if I can't I post it ... as I did the other day.

Yes, I looked for some answers when I didn't have one, but were you around to give advice or an opinion ?

Did you not see my thread ?

Thanks for the help there buddy ......

I have a question. Do you use cutting edge software? I had two recordings that wouldn't play right after I got my AM21, so I figured maybe DirecTV was working on a fix because the HR24 is so new, and I tried a cutting edge release a few weeks ago and everything has been perfect since then.

He didn't answer me earlier when I asked him that too.
However, he said he had talked to people that do , do the CE testing and they also have the problem, so like I said, it's a hit and miss thing.
Everybody's set ups are different .....

While I don't have a HR24 I do have a HR20 with it's built in OTA tuner and one of my HR22s has a AM21 attached. If I'm watching live tv I use OTA, but I never record OTA. I only record D*'s HD locals because they take about half the space of an OTA recording. OTA is MPEG2 while the D* HD locals are MPEG4. So when I get a couple of HR24s next year, any OTA recording bug won't bother me.
