Not happy with the Dish Hopper DVR

There is also the option to watch a program from the TV (OTA) not through the Hopper, leaving three tuners. (four when then USB tuner is added). Even if you are using the PTA, you might watch PBS or a subchannel directly from the TV, have four networks recording, and still have two more tuners available. (Three more when the USB OTA comes out - for yet a another OTA channel not part of the Four)

If OTA comes at. I don't like the fact that they will release it before they have it figured out. Look at all the broken promises with the 922.

I'm very interested in the new system, but I won't consider it until they come out with the ota. Depending on pricing, I would be interested in a 2/3 system. I have 4 hdtv's and 1 sd lcd monitor hooked up The monitor is on the kitchen counter. I would upgrade that to a small hdtv.

As far as the add another hopper argument, I have been in sales for 10 years and if it aint free to the customer you can pretty much forget them buying into it.

I have sold many systems to satelliteguys members and multiple DVR's is rarely an issue when it comes down to cost. If I sell to a non satelliteguys member, I would say less than 1% will opt to spend any additional money out of pocket.

To say something negative about Directv, the only thing I don't like about their whole home solution is that you can't pause on the HD receivers in the other rooms when watching a live program.

Directv needs to put out a software update to allow a simple USB flash drive to be used to give the receiver the ability to pause. Take a 15 Gig flashdrive, and that will give you an hour of pause time for any program

I thought with D*, all you have to do is hit record, and watch the recording basically in progress to be able to puase T.V?

I have a 722k , a 211k and a 211 all with EHDs. I have 8 tuners and 3 dvrs. I pay $20 per month in fees. If the Hopper and 2 Joeys are more than that or not. I have way more than the Hopper or Direct can offer for less.

To me, another negative is the way DirecTV does the EHD. I like being able to move shows to an EHD like Dish does it. I was sold on moving to the HR34 until the Hopper was announced. Now I am unsure which way I will go. Pricing will probably push me one way or another.

I used to have a 722 with an OTA antenna so I am used to only 3 tuners. Currently I am using cable in a rental house with 4 tuners. We are a family of 4 and I would say are not the norm. We DVR most things and watch from there. We only have 2 TV's and don't usually have both on at one time unless somebody is exercising.

I think if I went with the Hopper, depending on price, I would like to do 2 Hoppers and 1 Joey. Even thought I will only have 2 TV's, I will have 1 over my fireplace with a small builtin bookshelf so using a Joey there would make more sense especially if they cabinet has a door on it. I would put the 2 Hoppers in the basement with my big screen and only connect 1 to the TV. The other would just be there to do the recordings and for backup.

You hit the nail on the head there. I very rarely sell two 722s to customers because they do not want to pay the upgrade fee to get it. I don't really see too many of my regular customers getting the Hopper right away anyway so I'm not too concerned with explaining it. If the Hopper is everything it is said to be I am going to have fun selling it. I enjoy explaining and selling products that I understand and trust. It's one of the reasons I enjoy posting on here so much. I love talking about new and exciting products and helping others understand it as well as trying to learn some myself.

These are exciting times people, lets enjoy it. :)

Same situation here with my 722k and two 211ks with hard drives and dvr software. IF DISH prices the hopper system higher than what most people already have , the hopper will flop. I think DISH should do something revolutionary in the market and offer the entire system for cheaper than current setups and cheaper than DIRECTV has with their whole house dvr. Don't just match it, BEAT it like DISH used to do back in the early 2000s. DISH used to offer NO DVR fees at all and they added subs back then like wild fire. Imagine if this new Hopper /Joey system actually offered DVR and HD on every tv in your house and it was actually Cheaper than todays VIP setups? They might start growing again as a company and break the 14 million mark that they should of surpassed 5 years ago. I've said it before and I'll say it again, with the ever increasing programming costs, there is no where to cut but the made up , charge it because we can DISH FEES. That is if you want to keep existing subs and attract new ones. The next generation is not into tv, like my generation was. They are into internet delivered content. IF DISH is to survive and continue to grow , they need to REDUCE or even LOSE some of their FEES, to offset some of the programming increases that are coming our way in 2013.

Using the HR34 absent RVU clients, you either watch something off your local HD receiver tuner or you watch something that is recorded (or already recording) on the HR34 via WHDS. When (if?) RVU clients become widely available, this should change.

I agree. Even though I am still contemplating "cutting the cord", mostly due to economics, and just using OTA, Roku and internet streaming, Dish needs to realize that those of us that were raised on traditional methods of TV delivery wont be here for ever...

No, without OTA. Take your antenna, plug into the TV, and voila, you have OTA and "another tuner" Watch live while the other tuners are doing their thing.....

I didn't realize the tuner in my tv was a feature of the hopper. Maybe us plays blu-rays and Xbox games too! Not to mention I can't record from my tv's tuner.
