NHL 2012 off-season notes & transactions

Yep, so much for those 115,000 fans watching the game in Michigan Stadium. I was really looking forward to it!!!

I was also looking forward to this game also with all them people in that stadium the NHL made a big mistake by cancelling the game :)

115,000 for a hockey game? I would think the NHL would want that considering there not exactly the number 1 sport in the world. It was a huge chance to get eyeballs to a hockey game and eyeballs to the tv sets.

I won't be following the NHL this season even if they were to settle the dispute and crap a modified season. My complaint is that I love college hockey and the sports stations really don't really broadcast many games until mid-December. :(

I'm sorry....I'm a diehard hockey fan, which is the North American sport above the Mason-Dixon line, but people who follow the NHL this year are chattel...dull objects easily moved and manipulated by the owners and players. Fans need to boycotte this season even if play resumes, and not renew their season tickets for next season should this one be cancelled.

I think there will be PLENTY of empty seats when the NHL finally gets back to playing games.

I've been filling my DVR with college hockey, OHL, AHL and any other hockey that I can find and playing a game a night to make myself at least feel some sort of post MLB normalcy. So far it's working...kinda.

Then again, they didn't say they accomplished anything ...

I think it speaks VOLUMES that they have been meeting in undisclosed areas and NOT speaking publicly re: the meetings. This shows progress. Perhaps the Ducks' person who initially told me they would not be playing till December will have been correct in his prediction.

Sorry, I hope I didn't offened anyone...it's just that I am fed to up here (visualize that I am holding my hand up to my neck) with these bull$#!^ NHL lockouts. I have come back to the game after each and every salary dispute, but it's going to be a cold day in hell before I support of the NHL after this one.

I implied that anyone crawling back to the NHL after being bent-over and brutalized once again is a spineless slug. While this may be true, I too have guilty of the same reaction just because we are so passionate about our hockey. Of course, this latest rounds of FU leaves a very bad taste in my mouth; it's as though someone pissed in my Wheaties or perhaps spiked my punch a la Hollywood Knight style. Anyway, here is how I envision Bettman and the NHLPA stooges treating fans:

So don't renew your season tickets and lose the huge investment that many people have in them? There are many people out there that have $6000 per seat investment that is just lost if they don't renew. Would you be willing to just throw the $12K away if you were one of those individuals? Also what is the good at a boycott on the season if most of the tickets out there have already been purchased?

Personally I will be back and it is not because I am a spineless slug. It is because hockey is the one sport that my wife and daughter love and it makes for a great time out with the family. Also I wouldn't want to give up my investment in seats as I know I would never be able to get my location back as it is to good of a deal. Current season tickets for myself for a seat that normally cost $60 - $70 depending on game is only $12.50. Not going to get my panties in a bunch as going to the game as a family for around $30 is great.

Well, if I'm a season ticket holder then I'm going to pay whether I like it or not. I could sell or give-away some or all of my tickets, but the league is going to get paid one way or another. If I were in that situation, I would be inclined to discontinue my subscription after the season concluded and not renew in 2013-2014. Of course, as an avid hockey fan this tidbit is easier said than done just because we all love the Red Wings. :) And it's easier to forgive and forget once the puck is dropped.

Anyway, since I don't live anywhere close to my team it is easier to boycott the league since I can't attend games nor follow all of their games courtesy of Mickey Redmond and Detroit broadcast crew. I simply won't attend games when I'm back in town while visiting family or attending a UofM game, and I won't watch NBC Sports nor the NHL Network. Will it make a bit of difference? Probably not, but I am so-so-so sick of the fans being mistreated because the owners and players cannot play nicely.

The point is that even if you drop your season tickets for the next year, you would then lose your PSL that has been paid. That is where my figure of lose came into effect. I know that here in Columbus the PSL's range from $1500 - $6000 for a single seat. That investment is 100% lost if you don't renew your tickets.

IF I were in you guys shoes and was intent on boycotting the season, I would KEEP my season Tickets and give them to friends that may want to go and sell the others ....

This way if you decide you want to come back next year you haven't lost your investment.

I am not going to boycott the season if there is one. I will be there for every home game that I can make.
