NHL 2011-12 Season

You don't have a choice !

Ain't it GREAT !

Mickey calls them as he sees them, gives credit where it's do, not afraid to call out a Wing player and not afraid to tell you what should have been a penalty and what shouldn't have been.

Gotta love Mickey, I'll have a Ginger Ale with him ANYDAY !

And unlike so many other play-by-play hacks and color clowns he actually played the game (quite well too) and understands what's really happening down on the ice. Although I still love watchin the Wings on Versus and NBC, it's not the same with Mickey.

Ok, for all of you Red Wing fans that have been to the Joe, are there any bad areas to avoid? I know that Nationwide Arena doesn't really have a bad seat but I am not sure if the Joe is the same way. Looking to make a road trip with the Wife to see the Blue Jackets play the Wings this year and would like a little help prior to buying the tickets.

As long as your not at the VERY top row, you'll be fine.

Lower Bowl is very nice, if you can afford it, very expensive.
first 10 rows in the upper are very good too.

I try to get down to Columbus to see the Wings when they are down there, but haven't been able to do that lately ....

Much easier to get seats.

Thanks for the info.

Hopefully this year the Blue Jackets will turn things around and it will start to become tougher to get tickets. I am currently trying to figure out what I am going to do this year. I have season tickets and would really like to attend every game, but if I can sell 10 games at face value, I can pay for my next years tickets. This still gives me 32 games + pre season to enjoy. I just really wish that we were in the East as it would be easier to sell tickets as there would be more people willing to travel to the games.

A lot of pen fans would travel to Columbus.

I agree with you I really don't understand why some people think that Mickey is a homer.
I would sure like some examples of Mickey's homer ism.
I can think of a LOT of other hockey broadcasters who are real homers.

Oh, I've heard Mickey calling a game where he becomes a homer, but it's not too often...
Like I said, he tells you the game the way it should be, he gives you an inside look that you don't get from most other announcers.

When does hockey season start? :D

I don't know of any pro league that begins its regular season with less fanfare than the NHL.

What, your home town announcers are happy when the home team scores ?

Its OK for the home team announcers to be happy but if you are announcing on a national level you need to hold that excitement back. They have a duty to call the game fair and not have any favoritism for one team or the other.

Yes, to a certain extent.
You will notice, he will show you WHY the play worked and exactly what happened to allow the goal as well.
He's very insightful.
