NHL 2011-12 Season

I disagree. When it comes to moving a team over to the Eastern Conference...I think Detroit has earned first dibs.
Nope Detroit stays in the West. Taking the Wings to the East would create an imbalance of power teams in the East.
I am with the OP who suggested Columbus or Nashville. Probably Columbus. That team is about equal to Winnipeg in rank and Columbus is in the Eastern time zone.

What ???

Your Kidding right ?

The Penguins are always above everyone else according to the NHL and the teams that make TV.

They are the darlings of the NHL, them and Sidney .....

You hear soooo much about them it makes me want to puke.
I about sick of the VS/NBC Sidney Crosby man crush.
I am overall sick of the Penguins. Last season they showed their character or lack thereof and took to gooning it up. That team has three guys that are under Colin Campbell's microscope.

Detroit's been trying to get into the East for many years now, probably 10+, they will be the first to go, IF it ever happens.

Chances are they make a lot of changes all at the same time, re aligning the conferences entirely.

Its really a shame. I hope it doesn't turn out to be another Pat LaFontaine or Eric Lindros situation.
Concussions can be tricky.
Some people are more prone to them but recover quickly. Others recover enough to be ruled ready to go but suffer long lasting effects that worsen with each collision.
Both Eric Lindros, Lindros' brother, in football Troy Aikman suffered multiple concussions and their careers ended early.
Not a fan of Crosby by any stretch, but I hope he can continue his playing career and not lose it to injury.

Just 3 weeks before preseason games get under way and about 5 weeks for the first drop of the puck on the season. Who will be at the opening night games for your favorite team?

New Jersey will contest for their division. However, I see the Flyers taking it once again and probably the number one seed in the East. Rangers miss the playoffs again.
Pens will be NJ's closest competition. Once again, Washington takes the Southeast. Closely followed by Tampa Bay. Carolina makes the playoffs. Florida plays golf.

Wow, really? Flyers number one seed in the East after their crazy off-season? Interesting. I don't see it, but that would be an amazing story. No more Carter, no more Richards, Schenn hasn't even played a game yet in the NHL, to me Bryzgalov is not a big time goalie...this would be huge.

Not sure how I feel about the Devils...sounds strange but they have to overcome their goaltending again! Brodeur is a certain hall of famer but he has been hurting his team in recent years.

The Rangers? Goodness knows. Can be good if Brad Richards adds a spark to the power play and the offense in general. Can be mediocre again too. I see them fighting for the 7-10 slots...AGAIN!

Buffalo will challenge for overall home-ice advantage, but they'll fall just short of the Bruins. I see a 4 seed and they'll have the best record of a a non-division winner.

My NHL division title winners this year:

East- Boston, Tampa Bay, NY Rangers
West- Chicago, Vancouver, LA Kings

(I'll save the playoff picks until just before the season starts)

I haven't been following the offseason action too closely but with Draper, Osgood and Rafalski retiring will they be able to shore-up the Wings defense? They have plenty of firepower on offense, but they have been weak on defense the past couple years. I am not all that familiar with Ian White and Mike Commodore (new defenseman) nor anyone they are brining-up from the minors.

Lol you been drinking the kool-aid again? :D

I look forward to the league reshuffling the divisions and the Wings renewing some old eastern rivalries. :)

The Red Wings and Maple Leafs are the only one I think has really been missed in the EAST. Maybe the Bruins and Canadians as well, but not as much as the Leafs

They will apparently LOSE the Blackhawks off thier list of long time foes when this happens.

No more Av's or Sharks battles either. Gonna miss the Sharks, they were becoming very intense and hotly contested battles.

I'm trying to be optimistic about my team's chances- and their offseason moves have given me reason to hope for good things.

Sorry Sabres,
When the Red Wings finally DO move back to the EAST, thet moves your Sabres down a spot in the pecking order, Hoping to make the playoffs !

You don't have a choice !
LOL this is so true. Mickey Redmond is the biggest homer announcer in hockey.

Ain't it GREAT !

Mickey calls them as he sees them, gives credit where it's do, not afraid to call out a Wing player and not afraid to tell you what should have been a penalty and what shouldn't have been.

Gotta love Mickey, I'll have a Ginger Ale with him ANYDAY !
