I haven't been keeping track, but just a little while ago I went through my picks. I triple checked and came up with 105 games.

Weeks 1-3 featured all 32 teams, so 16 games per or 48 total. Week 4 started the Bye weeks and there were only two teams on bye (Pats and Titans) so 30 teams in action, 15 games. Weeks 5, 6 & 7 have had 4 teams each on Bye, so 28 teams a week, or 14 games a week or 42 total.

Hey every win counts

I used to be pretty good at this. The hardest part is picking with your head, not your heart.

The last three years that I was at my previous job one of the guys at work started a weekly Pick ‘em contest. It was $5/week to enter. Winner each week would get the pot minus $5. The guy who ran it would keep $5 a week then the person with the overall best record for the season would get the left over cash. So $85 bucks for a 17 week season. Tie breaker was the total number of offensive yards by the Buffalo Bills, total number of offensive yards for the Jets when the Bills were on Bye. We only had 12-17 guys participating each year but the first year I won a few weeks and wound up finishing second overall. The second year I finished first six or seven weeks and won the whole thing in a close battle. The third year I cleaned up. We didn’t start until Week 3 of the NFL season since the guy who ran it was on Vacation for a few weeks in the beginning of September that year, and we kind of forgot about it. I finished first our first three weeks (NFL Weeks 3-5) but lost on tie breakers, then went on a roll winning 9 out of remaining 12. Most straight up, but a few on tie breakers. The three weeks that I didn’t Win, I placed second or third. I forgot how much I ended up clearing between the 3 years. It wasn’t a ton of money, it was a little north of $1K. What really hurt was the last 3 or 4 weeks of my third year, when it became apparent that I was going to take #1 overall, a lot of the guys dropped out. So instead of banking $60 or $70 a week, I was only doing about $20 or $25, since it was just me and 5 or 6 other guys. I would usually get 10-12 games right per week on average.

Two of the weeks in the third year that I didn’t win, I lost to our only female participant who won one week based on her choosing teams who had ‘prettier uniform colors’. And the other week she picked based on cities she’s been to or would like to go to. I forgot who the Vikings were playing, but it was a team they should have beat but didn’t, she was the only one to pick against the Vikings and I asked her what made her pick against them, her response was ‘Minneapolis is too cold for me’.

I’m, using this as practice to build confidence to do it again for money next year.
