NFL commissioner Roger Goodell raised the possibility of having a 17th regular-season game as an option to help settle some of the league's future labor problems.

"We are actually looking at that as one alternative," Goodell said Tuesday at the NFL owners meeting in Atlanta, the same day that the league's owners voted unanimously to opt out of their labor deal with the players' union two years early. "We think that may have an impact on some of the things we would want to talk to the players about. It's on the table."

A 17th regular-season game could replace a fourth preseason game and the possibility comes at a time that the league is not satisfied with the quality of the preseason. The league made a presentation to owners about ways to improve the current preseason Tuesday.

What do they do in 10 years, add an 18th game? They need to quit paying out so much money.

Actually a 2 game preseason, and 18 game regular season makes alot of sense.

Better for season ticket holders that pay full fare for 2 pre-season games now, and it would be one if they go to a longer season.
Better for players, as once they get into the regular season they start getting game checks.
Better for owners, as they get more revenue for TV etc.
Better for all fans, as its more "real" games, as most fans watch their teams preseason games anyways.

If they cut the preseason in half, I'm all for it.

Yeah me too, but the regular players hardly played any in the preseason. Some of them might play a half at most during those games.

Delete the preseason. Just keep the cut dates the same. College doesn't have a preseason, the NFL don't need one either. For that matter extend the season to 22 games. I can't get enough of the Lions losing!
