Rudi Johnson: Lions 'years away' from being competitive

Former Lions running back Rudi Johnson, whose one-year stint in Detroit turned into a nightmarish 0-16 season, didn't sound too optimistic about the team's prospects for a quick turnaround in 2009.
In an interview on Sirius NFL Radio on Tuesday, Johnson said the Lions are "years away."
"Definitely," said Johnson, an unrestricted free agent looking for a new team this offseason. "I would say years away from being a competitive team in the NFL. So I wish them the best of luck."
Why?
"When you get that far off, there's not just one thing that plays a part in it," said Johnson, who started just four games and finished with 76 carries for 237 yards in 2008. "If you go 0-16, it's not just the players, it's not just the coaches, it's not just the organization. It's everything from top to bottom. It's not just one thing, it's everything. ... So you know there are a lot of things that need to be fixed for them to be successful and get to winning football games.
"Like I said, I wish them the best of luck, but sometimes people gotta move on, and that's what the situation is. But they're definitely a long shot away from being competitive and winning football games."
Wow, there's some insight Rudi. Funny thing is that you weren't good enough to play here either. Bye-bye Rudi. The Lion's will be playing this year - how about you?
