NFL 2009-10 Season

Monday Morning QB: Week 6 with HD MM

1. Perhaps 3 weeks was a bit premature of everyone to have crowned Mark Sanchez (aka "Sanchise") the savior of the NY Jets and the best thing to happen to their team since Joe Namath. 5 INTS?! Oh my.

2. This just in: Tom Brady is BACK!!! 5 TD's in 1 quarter? In the snow? Are you kidding me?

3. The Redskins have played the easiest schedule in NFL history to begin the season. For 6 consecutive games, they've played a winless team. For the Skins to have won only 2 out of the 6, what does that make them?

4. As bad as it is in Washington, firing a coach mid-season doesn't seem to do a whole lot of good either. Teams who've fired coordinators BEFORE the start of the season are 3-15.

5. Note to the NFC. There's a new giant in town and this behemoth wears the colors of black and gold! (And no, I'm not talking about the Stillers. Silly yinzers, your colors are black and yellow. How many times do we have to tell you this?)

6. To say the Vikings dodged a bullet is an understatement. Gotta give credit to the Vikings though. A wins a win. BTW, Favre is now 6-0 for the first time in his career. Now does everyone know why the Vikings put up with the preseason drama? Anyone think a Tavaris Jackson led team would be 6-0?

7. What's up with the Rams? They actually went out kicking and screaming with this game. Good fight. Unfortunately for them, St. Louis is still the worst team in the NFL.

8. The Eagles have Antonio Pierce to thank for their loss. Anyone else think Pierce's statements fired up the Raiders just a little? Kudos to them for responding. Maybe if Tom Cable doesn't last past this year, Skeletor can contact Pierce for the next head coaching gig.

9. Congratulations to the Steelers. As much as it pains me, they've beaten the Browns 12 consecutive times now. It's almost a shame this game isn't quite the rivalry it used to be. I do have hope for the future though. Teams build through the draft and as of today, the Browns have compiled ELEVEN draft picks in 2010.

also, with the New England game out of reach by halftime, why didnt they flip us who arent in those 2 markets over to the Jets game?

I know there were only 2 late games on CBS but why keep it there for the blowout until the very end when the other game was tied? Sure it was an ugly tie game but it would be somewhat more interesting....or did CBS figure "hey lets see if Tennessee actually can get points on the board?"

My CBS affiliate switched to the Jets/Bills game.

For all I've heard about Jim Zorn and Wade Phillips being on th hot seat, I think it might be time to throw in Jeff Fisher's name in there.

Tennessee has stuck with Jeff Fisher for a long time. I think his leash is a lot longer than others. With that said, it truly looks like he's losing his team. There is no explanation for the downward spiral that's taking place right now by his team.

Sherman Lewis to Take Over Playcalling for Washington & Zorn

Two weeks ago, Lewis was enjoying retirement in Michigan, calling Bingo games at a senior center and delivering Meals on Wheels. He previously spent 22 years as an NFL assistant and was originally hired as a consultant for the Redskins' offense.

The front office stripped Zorn of the play-calling role following Sunday's 14-6 loss to previously winless Kansas City. The Redskins are 2-4, and they have failed to score a touchdown in two of their home games.

The Washington Redskins said Monday that Lewis will take over the play calling for an offense that is averaging only 13.2 points per game.

I saw this morning that Zorn wasn't calling the plays, but they didn't say who. Never heard of this guy.

He was born in Louisville. You 2 are like two peas in a pod.....

Packers working out old teammate Ahman Green a week removed from re-signing OT Mark Tauscher.

Patriots have cut LB Tully Banta-Cain who hasn't had a bad season or anything, and is strange after they had LB Adalius Thomas for no given reason for the Titans game. This is a week after they re-signed 95 year old Junior Seau.

Wonder if they're working on a trade that they needed to make room on the roster for, other shoe to drop later today?

Fanhouse reporting the Redskins recently tried to hire Mike Shanahan to replace Jim Zorn and he declined because mid-season replacement was going to accomplish little.

Derek Anderson remains the starter in Cleveland.

On IR today:
Seahawks Lofa Tatupu
Bengals Antawan Odom
Jets Kris Jenkins

Looks like Lofa Tatupu may be prematurely reported as being on IR, even the coach said that he had torn biceps meaning he'd be done for the year and it turns out it's just a partial and more tests are going to be done, if true he may only be out a few weeks.

The Panthers have traded a 5th round 2010 pick to the Kansas City Chiefs to acquire defensive tackle Tank Tyler, a 2007 third-round pick who started all 16 games last season. He started two games this year.

I was wrong....

Let me be the first to say that I was completely wrong about the Denver Broncos and Josh McDaniels. I was very critical of Denver ownership when they ran Mike Shanahan out of town. I was also critical when McDaniels ran Jay Cutler out of town.

Initially, I thought McDaniels was in way over his head. After last night, I am now a believer. In the previous 5 weeks, I kept making excuses on how they keep winning. Not anymore. 6-0 is impressive!

McDaniels has a great offensive scheme carried over from New England. He's gotten Kyle Orton to play smart ball and it seems like all the players have bought into his system. Also deserving of credit is new defensive coordinator, Mike Nolan. His defense is tenacious! Speaking of defense, Elvis Dumervil may break the single sack record. 10 in 6 games?! Are you kidding me?!
