NFL 2007-08 Season

Being a Lions fan I have no idea what all the sports talking heads were thinking before the pre-season when they were saying "Detroit will be Carolina Panthers, Baltimore Ravens, or Patriots team that has horrible season after season for a decade, and then make it to the Superbowl"!

I have not heard one talking head mention what a great team the Lions will be now that we are in the pre-season.

My Prediction for Detroit was correct last year when I said they will "lucky to get 4 wins". This year I predict they can never amount more than 4 wins.

Joe, you're even more pessimistic than me. I'm figuring 6 wins. The catch is that they're one injury (Kitna) away from a 2 - 14 season. This team needed help on the offensive line and serious help on defense, so naturally we drafted a WR. This team still can't run, and still can't stop the pass. Is anybody still in the secondary from last year? Bullock is gone for the season, Bly was traded away (and he was the best of the lot), Bryant will be injured the first time somebody looks at him wrong, and I don't even know who the rest are. The Linebacking crew has proven itself as injury prone, and the line is anchored by a player, who refuses to play all out 50% of the time (Rodgers). Other then that, it should be quite an aerial show. I would have traded some of the passing excitement for a boring team that could win.

DETROIT LIONS - REBUILDING SINCE 1957!

Now that the "silly season" is over, lets get down to serious business - the business of the Lions losing their way to another NO. 1 or NO.2 pick that they can use on a WR.

Its funny... this will be the most chatter about the Lions all season long. We know what to fully expect from this team througout the regular season.

I used to go to at least one game every year. I stopped that tradition last year. The same group of friends I go with to the games did not see my logic in "I will not give Ford another dollar in ticket sales or merchandise until they prove they can put a winning product on the field".

My friends all went to the November game against Atlanta. It was unseasonably colder than usual (14 degrees), so the tailgaite was almost unbearable. But they did get to see a win. And I still did not feel dissapointed that I missed the annual trip because at that point in the season they were mathematically out of any post season hopes. After the game, I got to turn off the T.V. and go hang out with my family. I was thankful I did not have a 3 hour drive home to think about what a loser team I just witnessed playing football.

I even missed watching a game on T.V. last year to go to a family dinner, which I never would have done in the past. And I did not regret it!

The point is, I am done putting any more emotion or money into the Lions. If I am home on Sunday to watch the game, I will gladly tune in. If my wife says "hey lets go out for dinner after church today", I won't fight it anymore just because I am going to miss the first quarter of the Lions game.

Some people will say I am not a true fan. That's simply not true. I can name every starter from top to bottom on the depth chart, every year. I still feel anger when they lose. It just comes down to I don't need to waste 3 hours every Sunday to come to that conclusion.

You're tale is one that mirrors mine, I refuse free tickets on a weekly basis. I refuse to put anymore money in Mr. Ford's pockets until they offer a competitive team. This has been the worst run franchise in the NFL for the last 50 years. One playoff win in the last 50 seasons. It's getting to the point where I don't want to watch anymore. I'll admit I'm still watching, but only till they fall 14 pts. behind (which is usually in the first half). I wish Ford would sell the team to someone who has a clue about running a football franchise.

You need to find another team to root for along with the Lions, that way not EVERY Sunday will be a losing effort for you !

Like you Jimbo, I'm also a Steeler fan, but I can't justify the cost of Sunday Ticket to my wife. I did tell her though, that if (after) the Lions have another losing season, that next season we would be getting Sunday Ticket and officially adopting Pittsburgh as our team. I believe she will bend on this matter, as she does understand my frustration. I remain hopeful about the Lions, but realistic. 6 -10 is my prediction.

That's why I'm glad I can watch every Steeler game every week without ST, my wife wouldn't let me get it.

Well....like I said before....I am really hoping for a 6-10 and very competitive Raiders team this year. I would LOVE an 8-8....but that would be wishful thinking at 8-8.

Salsa, just be happy if you guys get past the Lions (REBUILDING SINCE 1957). I'm putting the over/under on total sacks in this game at 8. Let the McFadden sweepstakes begin!

I did not know that !!!
Welcome to Steeelers Country Paul !!!

How many Lions games do you go to a year ?
Tell your wife you'll keep that money and put it towards the ST and SF packages :)

You can still get the Lions OTA when you want to and possibly on the ST in the HD channels, at least the last few years they have.

I just simply can not become another fan of a team. I am loyal to the death. (And being a Lions fan has almost become the death of me).

I am however a casual fan of NFL football. I always watch the AFC matchups on CBS. Now that I have an HDDVR, I can record games on both CBS and Fox on Sunday.

I do however always watch the Steelers games when I can get them. Maybe there is something inside of me waiting to come out.

Even though I live close enough to Ford Field to walk there, you couldn't pay me to go. I turn down tickets almost weekly from friends who can't (or won't) go. I love going to the Big House to see Michigan (glad I wasn't there last Saturday), but I prefer to watch (or shut off ) the Lions on my Sony 55". God bless whoever invented HD DVR's. Mostly I refuse to support Clay Ford's 3 ring circus until he either puts a winning team on the field, or sells the team. These two items are probabily tied together. I believe in this age of salary cap football, that Ford is doing all he can financially to help this team, but doesn't have a clue about hiring the proper personnal to run this once proud franchise.

DETROIT LIONS - aw, you guys know the rest.

You would think Ford would get that this is the logic of a lot of the fan base for the Lions. This will mark the second year in a row that the entire regular season is not sold out of tickets. Last year you could purchase tickets for any game on the day of kick off... from the ticket office.

Less butts in the seats = less merchandise being sold.
