New Software Updates Discussion Thread

  • Server Issues.

We are very aware that there have been system issues the past few days. In troubleshooting the system, it has been determined that the issue is at our provider and is hardware related. As of 12:05 PM ET our provider has moved us to a new server.

Things seem to be running better on this new server. However in trying to diagnose the issue (before finding out it was a hardware issue) we made some system changes which we need to undo. So if you find any issues or errors please let us know in the Operations Center Forum.

Thank you for your patience! Sorry for the issue!

Back to main purpose of the thread - if you missed - new DVR ViP722k become live, beta SW spooling for it on wings sats.
Why I said new ? Well, a size of the SW is twice bigger then for 622/722 !

I got it last night on my 622. so far some issues i had with channel changing and stuttering have improved. so far so good. L511

My favorite thing about 511 is that it allow s me to turn off the annoying alert about the remote being set to something other than the receiver.

Hey on the last chat they told a caller that it was not a problem that it was an importan feature. So i am glas that t ehy give us the ability to turn it off.

That would be nice as well but it is mot as if doing one means they can't do the other. Several have asked for the ability to turn off this popup and i for on glad they gave it to us. But that does not stop them from fixing other issues.

that possibilty exists with ANY change but it is by no means a certainty or even a likelihood that thsi oen would do that. Why do you single this requested feature for that that comment?

Well in adding the one feature for the mode popup, they created at least seven new bugs, namely changing the existing options 3-9 to 2-8, messing up anybody's memorized remote control keysequences. Not to mention deleting whatever 2 used to be and confusing anybody who was using that.

Messing up the FF modes is just a bonus.

I am not sure I am following this pepper. Are you saying that moving menu items is a bug? The mode reminder is option 9 so I don't see how it interferes with any habits concerning the other numbered options----but maybe I just don't understand what you are referring to. Do you feel that any problems with FF was caused by this change? i am not sisputing you just asking what you are referring to.

Smith: I forgot to include the <sarcasm> tags but I figured you'd get that one.

Geronimo: I've seen comments from various people about moving the menu items. A real popular one one guy mentioned was Captioning on/off. Used to be Menu 8-8-1, now it's Menu 8-7-1. If somebody uses something a lot, and there's not a particularly easier way to get to the same place, then yes, to that person, changing what position it is on a menu is a bug. If they happened to have programmed a universal remote to emulate the keysequence, now the user has to go reprogram that too.

Dish removed what they percieved as the least-used option, renumbered everything after it, and added the new option at the bottom. It would have been better if they had just replaced the one option and left all the rest alone. And no, I doubt the menu code has anything to do with the broken FF, other than that they both were changed in the same release.

I guess I don't see the added option as causing the problem. but thanks for the explanation.

I just noticed something in 511 i haven't seen before or read on here but i've only had it two days- i didn't receive 510 so it could have been on there then

If you click the menu button twice and then click next it goes to the setup remote 1 and click next again it goes to setup remote 2 - must be for the new remotes they haven't released yet 20 & 21 or something like that
