tulsa, ok
ok, i will be the first to admit that sometimes i act like the "ever-lasting know it all". my postings have been corrected many a'times by ya'll, but hey, thats why we are all here, to learn and share what we know so others can learn. i really recommand everyone check out dtv.org . this is the website that i got all the info on that i posted on a previous thread regaurding the analog cut off date come february. there is a quiz that you can take after you read all the faq and info this website offers. what i ask, is that no one please post any advice or answers to concerns about the analog cut off date until they have checked out the site, and passed the quiz. yes i know that even after passing the quiz, there might be certain parts we all interpret differently, but this will at least help in preventing the spread of all the myths about what is going on. it didnt make me the dtv guru (but there are a few of you out there that this site will), but i did learn more then a thing of too.

We(Satguys Staff) aren't knocking you but I know how it is. They is a lot of confused people about this subject and I see it everyday myself.

well, once all the telcoms and dbs providers get thier csr's educated it will also help. i never take offence when i get corrected on this site. main reason i come on here in the first place is to try to absorb some new knowledge.

Where is the Quiz on www.dtv.org ???

The web site dtv.org appears to have a list of sponsered links but I could not find any link to a quiz on the analog to digital OTA transition that will happen in 2009.

As long as each thread discusses a slightly different aspect of it all i think it is fair to start a new thread. but i still think that discussions of this type belong in the OTA forum and not the DISH forum.

Took the quiz and got 100% but I did have to google the coupon thing however as I didn't know about that.

wow, the irony lol. thank god i can laugh at my own mistakes. funny how i started the conversation about being corrected in here, then attempted to help others get corrected on info about dtv and analog cut off, and what do i do???? i put the wrong friggin website address up. thanks for catching that loves2watch. i will stop any threads about the analog cut off, i think i have beaten this long dead horse enough. and aint that 40 dollar coupon great that the gov is giving you to invest in hd tuners? i wont even need one, but i am going to get one and use it.

Problem is, people with cable and satellite think they're affected by this.

I know. And the statement/question I get all the time, the biggest misunderstanding of all wasn't even on the quiz: Doesn't everything have to be HD soon anyway? NO! Digital transmission and HDTV are two different things. Everything will have to transmitted in digital form, it does NOT have to be HD. HD is a quality of picture, not a transmission standard.

I'm so sick of having to explain this one, I feel maybe I should just print up a prepared statement and hand it to them when they ask this question. I get this question at least once a day.

perhaps dishnetwork could put this kind of information on the dish 101 channel.

Why would they? this matter involves OTA transmissions not satellite broadcasts. Maybe OTA broadcasters could air spots explalining it to OTA viewers (who are the ones affected by it) but airing something on DISH or osting this in an area frequented by DISH Network subs is not the best way to get the message to those that need it.

Actually, I think that the local stations are supposed to do something of this sort someday. It absolutely belongs on local broadcast channels only. There also needs to be clear wording that "If you're watching this via your local cable company (Time Warner, Comcast, etc) or satellite provider (DirecTV, Dish Network, etc), YOU WILL NOT BE AFFECTED."

For once I agree with you Hall. Lots of folks think that all TV will be obsolete in 2008 and it just si not the case. Cable and sat subs are only marginally affected by this but ithouseholds that depend on OTA are. Why DISH should be training their CSRs eludes me.

the reason i think it would be good to put it on dish101(no idea on how many people watch it) is so that people who currently have dish will know that they will not be affected. there are plenty of sat/cable users who think that their tv needs to be upgraded. or perhaps if sat/cable companies would send out a letter in their next bill. i know not everyone will read it, but heck, it will still help get the word out that they will not be affected.

Same here. There is a tremendous amount of misinformation. At least once a month I will service a cust that tells me they were persuaded to run out and buy an LCD/Plasma/DLP because they were told they needed and HDTV.
I think retailers of HD tvs are not being straightforward with TV shoppers on this. Based on the consensus of comments by customers.
