New H21 Remote Select Button

I added an H21 receiver last week (new from best buy) and all works fine except when entering a different channel and then pressing the "select" button, it erases the new channel selected and the receiver just stays on the same channel. Not a big deal because if i just enter the new channel I want to switch to without pressing the "select" button, all goes well.
Strange as my other four remotes work fine using the select button that way. It just seems to speed up the switch to the new channel.
Any ideas?

the select button was never supposed to be used to enter a channel, the ENTER key is.

ok, the enter key works fine - i will use that
odd that the other four remotes work with the select key
